My 2plus year old spiny-tail ig is only now calming down after almost a year and a half with us, and still only lets ME take her out. I strongly believe it is because I never back down from her and am consistent in my handling. Rob lets her intimidate him, and even though he feeds her 5 days a week she won’t let him approach her or take her out without hissing and gaping. He usually gives up and I have to do it. She might run from me sometimes, but mostly doesn’t cause a commotion for me and is a sweetie once she’s out. I know greens are different than spiny-tail igs, but spinies are notorious for being aggressive by nature, and all the info I’ve come across for handling has been the same. You have to be patient. You have to be consistent. You have to approach in a non-threatening way, and not back down...you have to be the trusted dominant one. What is your set up? What is your handling schedule? How long have you had him? Look down the list of posts for other suggestions on similar topics. Iguanas can be wonderful pets if you are committed. Good Luck! |
