 Iguana Mites

My iguana has black and red mites. I have been diligently working on getting rid of them. In the meantime, do I need to worry about my dogs getting them?

Thank you so much for any help!

Alexis

Dogs can’t get mites from reptiles cats and other mammals either.. Reptile mites are completely different from any other blood sucking parasite. For ex. A dog has fleas, it can infect the cat but the fleas from the dog/cat isn’t gonna infect the reptile but mites on a reptile can infect another reptile/collection by hitching a ride on you to get to another host. I had mites once and my dogs/cat even house was fine although my collection wasn’t but it all changed when I used reptile relief and provent a mite.

Thank you very much for your feedback!

I have been reading mixed reviews about provent-a-mite and reptile relief. So they worked for you? Do you have any other suggestions for me? I spotted the first one last Thursday and since then have used a bleach/water solution to soak everything in the cage (the wood pieces are too big to bake and I cant take the cage outside, so the big wood pieces have been soaked too). I have been using bleach spray in his cage (while he is soaking/in a holding cage) and then using dish soap and hot water to scrub the cage. I even caulked the edges of the cage so there are less crevices. I gave my iguana a mineral oil rub down yesterday and then bathed him for 30 mins. His cage has nothing but paper towels and food/water (and of course lighting ect) in it right now to keep things simple and easy to clean for a while. I have a vacuum I have been using to sweep every day and then every other day the dish soap/hot water cleaning and baths for him. I am so worried about him! I really hope the diligent cleaning works. If there is anything else you think would help please let me know!

Thank you again!

Get some bedadine so it can make a tea colored warm bath, this cleans out any mite bites. Baby oil tends to suffocate mites.....I think mineral oil works the same way. Both sprays worked for me. Reptile relief goes on my herps while I use the other on the cage.

What about wood cages? I cannot figure out what to use- I hear bleach and water solution wont kill the mites.

I did a mineral oil covering on my iguana the other day. How should I do the Bedatine if he goes under water in the bath a lot (worried about it getting in his eyes).

Thanks for your help!

Bleach water didn’t help me, I never had any problems with the bedadine water solution even when they got it in their face I just didn’t let them drink it.

How long do you leave them in the bedatine bath for?

Hello with positive energies👋 Lil Blue, my young blue iguana has mites! I am giving daily treatments with warm baths, virgin olive oil & a reptile spray every three days. I see a lot of black dots throughout Lil Blue’s body. How long does it take to eradicate all stages of mites? Has anyone heard of or used Genesis Relief Products? There’s a mite insecticide for $15...
