I know this is the iguana forum
so i’ll talk about the iguanas first! lily ate today! i was so proud of her! we’re feeding her tiny portions, because she almost always leaves it all. but she’d eaten when i got home, and i’d gotten a grilled stuft burrito and got her out to offer her some. she’s not sure about it--she ate one bite and left. but she went straight back to her cage and to her dish. so i gave her some iggy salad and she scarfed, and then ate a big turnip leaf for me. donatello did not--the snot. he’s getting so thin. i keep telling myself, it’s normal, it’s normal, it’s normal... i get so worried about him during breeding season. he’s worse this year than he was last year, too. i can hardly handle him (but i can dress him up--well, for ’tello he’s quite wild). ok, now i can talk about stewie: he’s so cute! so skinny, though. there’s a lot more skin there than dragon. i want to fatten him up but i’m feeding him carefully. tonight he had half a nightcrawler. i tried to cut it up; i really did. i managed one cut. i’m standing in the kitchen going, "eew! eew!" jim came in and took the knife away from me. he said, "i’ll just pretend i’m fishing for very small fish." it was a huge worm; half of it made six good-sized chunks. so i picked the pieces up with hemostats (not just for roach clips any more!) to feed them to him, and he loves them! last night he ate the steak. tonight he GRABBED the worm. i suppose i don’t actually have to hold him and hand feed him, but it’s so fun. and we’re bonding. he’s eaten a whole little dish of iggy salad every day, too. i bought him some cage carpet; the rocks were a BAD idea. they looked pretty, but the lizard piddle went through them and got STINKY. it was obvious very quickly that i needed to change substrata. so he sat with jim while i redecorated his cage. he just laid there on jim’s tummy, peaceful as can be. apparently they did handle him. or maybe he just likes us. so, for all of you who know all this already, i’m sorry, but everything about my little dragon is brand new and amazing to me. and you know what jim said? he told me that while lily was eating out of my hand he had tears in his eyes, and i asked him why. he said, "because 15 months ago i didn’t give a sh** about anyone or anything, including myself. and to be able to learn to love again..." and then he ran out of words. we are blessed beyond all deserving. jesse |

Don’t worry about donatello....he’ll be fine...Gilligan is real thin too..he nibbles here and there..just keep him hydrated..... That’s good to get rid of the rocks....I was going to say something and wanted to call you back but I’ve been sooooo busy....Be care with the worms....too many might give him the runs...and you talk about STINK...OMG.....Do you have a problem feeding him F/T (frozen thawed)....pinkies....You know I was the same way..I said I was NEVER going to feed pinkies.....It’s soooo much easier...heck now I breed my own food..LOL..I still don’t feed live I freeze them first... It’s because of wonderful folks like you that I learn more than I could ever imagine ...Owning 1 and having one set of experiences is never enough to be well versed in the care of this special critter...so you keep right on posting ... I will get another some day... in the mean time I live vicariously through others ....I read all of it with great intensity...I know he will get fat for you soon...give him a bigger water container ...they normally like to poop in the water...I am sure you know this by now ...but for some reason he doesn’t ...LOL Cute stairs and rocks to aid climbing in and out..he will seek the water and take baths daily. Make it 6-8 inches deep and about 12" across so he can turn about inside. Or get a cat box if you have the room. I was a WD person before I was an Iggy person....but I ain’t afraid....LOL Cp |

Oh and about the substrate I use that shredded coconut dirt. Pop sits on top. Atilla likes to dig through it and make little beds. |
