 Unplanned Vet visit

Today was any ordinary day, got up fed my scaly army and brewed some coffee. I was doing my hair and giving Reptar a bath (trying to multi task) and Jack walks in from work, gets a towel and pulls reptars lazy butt out of the bath tub so I can finish getting ready for work. Apparently Reptar freaked when she saw my pit bull in the doorway and went nuts.

I mean dangerously freaked out. I was bruises all over my ankles from being whipped with her tail gahhhh. Anyway she got herself in such a panic she just keeled over. She was as puffed up as she could get and wasn’t moving. So we started checking for SIGNS OF LIFE. I thought she had a damn heart attack or something. She was completely paralyzed and non responsive. My boyfriend Jack picked her up turned her on her back and put her belly to his ear. MY iguana would never let anyone even attempt to flip her over so I called my vet and rushed her in.

Apparently iguanas dont have diaphragms. The vet explained that she puffed herself up so big she couldnt exhale because there was too much pressure and air in her little body. So she passed out. Her eyes were way bludged out, the inside of her mouth was purple and she didnt breath for a good 15 minutes. Everything went back to normal when the vet gave her a little squeeze.

I thought someone might get a good laugh out of this.
I’d never heard anything like this, maybe you have.
Seriously almost crapped myself.

SHE, cp, she’s a she...(lol)

i’m so glad she’s okay! she’s not retarded from oxygen deprivation or anything? so the vet just squoze her and she deflated? i guess that’s a little piece of knowledge to file away; it could come in handy.

I literally flipped out. I thought she had a heart attack or a seizure. She held her breath all the way to the vet which is a good 20 minutes away. Her eyes looked like they were going to explode there was so much pressure in her body.

My vet is awesome though, laughed about it. He said hed never seen an iguana pass out but she should be fine. I gave her some reptaid yesterday and today because it took so much out of her. But he said no brain damage or physical side effects. Thank God.

I dont know if I could handle another lizard dying on me. Reptar is my favorite pet and I spoil her rotten. Shes like my child.

Iguanas in their natural environment, when they are baskin under the sun about 40 metres high relaxing up to sticks and they see the danger coming they jump in the water, they slow down their palm of their heart so they save oxygen and this way they can keep their breath about 40mins...

Here are some documantaries:
