Wow ...!! That’s great news...I always wanted a boy..The fact is the pet store owner has missed in this area before ...but so many animals have been passed from them to Pam to us...well it’s a true battle of the sexes ....LOL

I just took everyone’s word for it...Heck what do I know...well I know I don’t like the name Leo ...that’s for sure!

We are thinking Aragon from the Lord of The rings would be fitting. Kind Tender Strong and good looking..!!.....LOL

When I got my iguana back in the late 90’s the store clerk swore it was female. He fit in my hand at the time. I even said to her there was no way you can sex this iguana at this age. He ended up male like I suspected. I think I told Edel another time that she probably had a male. Look in the article section under sexing iguana...you will see some of the differences. I’ll have to get some pics up of the wild iguanas we have down here and let you all take a shot at figuring out their sex. Jowls are one of the first things I look at when determining the sex of an iguana. Usually iguanas aren’t so vain to expose there femoral pores right away.

Still a good looking iguana. Good luck with him. How does he like baths so far? I can never get mine out of them.

Aw, congrats!

I was pretty confused when you said "she" was about 4 and had never laid eggs and was so orange. When I first got Diamond I was told he was a "she" also, he definitely proved me wrong but he’s always just kept his name. I don’t think they really mind. :)

i’m not joanne, but i know you can expect him to be a snotball and leave little sperm packets all over the place (packets is a gentle term; they’re GLOBS, actually). donatello sits oh, so calmly on my shoulder and then suddenly explodes and goes crashing and careening all over the place. neither of mine are eating, normal but scary. i’ll be so relieved when it’s over.

i’m naming my next boy lizard stewey.

and, just as a reminder, pet shop employees are (nearly) invariably idiots.

according to green ig society, sexual maturity is more a size thing than an age thing, but that doesn’t make sense unless (C)Leo has had health issues. he should have been mature at about 6" svl, or 1 1/2 to 2 years old. that’s a big iguana, so i don’t get that part.

i suppose you could just be lucky. kylie says shela (who is a he-la) stays sweet, and i think he’s three or four. ’tello isn’t orange a bit, but he’s nuts, which i wasn’t expecting, because he wasn’t last year. maybe he won’t do those things ever in his life, just spend a couple months orange and that’ll be it.

I think it depends on the iguana and how they’re raised. I know Diamond was always sweet as ever during breeding season for the past 4 years that I’ve had him(had him 6 years total but at 2 he started turning orange). I’ve noticed that this year, he wasn’t handled as much since I’m in high school now and he can only come out so often, that he’s more aggressive this year than he’s ever been.

That’s just my opinion, but I’d say the more they’re handled, the better they are.

Reptar has always been orange on top and bright green on the belly.
Are only males orange or what?
I just thought he might have been mixed with a red iguana down the line.
Our other iguana is all over green and blue.

Thanks Joanne...thanks Jesse, I gotta say as early as July when I first moved to Utah He / she has always been orange...just thought that was it’s color. Now with all this added info we shall see. I was handling the lizard in July and another visit some other time after. Always as pleasant and docile as a kitten. We couldn’t stand to see it cooped up in a dark room due to winter coming and the dog taking precedence over the space at the last home it occupied. So we made some alterations and brought (c)Leo home... LOL...I hate the name Leo.

Ohhh it loves greens and fruit ...all it had before was beardie pellets and green beans from a can..!!OMG ... it loves bannanas...lol, In the truck on the way home I offered a piece and if she/ he even gets a wiff of bannana it’s all over it now.....Too bad it’s just a treat, otherwise I would give it all the time. Soooo cute to see it tear into one....LOL


The new name option I thought about last night...
Maximus ...Quoted from Wikpedia "Maximus (alternative spelling Maximos) is a name formed from the Latin term for "greatest" or "largest." ... or MAX for short....

This is so exciting for me , I have always desired to have a beautiful Iguana...now I can put a lot of energy towards this special creature. He or she really deserves it...

I’ve only had reptar about 6 months but shes about 4 maybe 3 and a half. 4 pounds and roughly 40 inches havent measured her in a month or two. My vet says shes a female or immature male. The little spores on her legs are medium size so we’re not sure. I’ll have to take some porn pics and get some opinions. But she doesnt look any more orange than normal.
