 Iguana seems skiddish.. has been.

Ever since I got my iggy two months ago or so, he hasn’t been all-to friendly. Sometimes he’ll sit there calmly, but whenever you try to hold him or even pet his tail (if its sticking out the cage or something) he will dart away.
Mind you, I’m not jumping at him, I’m moving fairly cautiously.

Will he ever settle down?

im guessing he is still a baby right? the young ones tend to be super spazzy. he will calm down as he gets older. when you pick him up or go to touch him, come from the side where he can see your hand. if you come from above, he cant see you and he feels like your hand is a predator coming down on him. but like i said, the little ones are spazzy. lol

He’s getting pretty big though.
Probably just at the 2 ft. mark from snout to end of the tail.

Even when I creep up from the side he still does a tailswipe and scurries away.
I see many people holding their little ones.

don’t get worried; some iguanas tame more rapidly than others. have you read green ig society’s page about taming? it gives some excellent tips.

He’s rather calm.. he likes to sit on his rock (not a hot rock so don’t worry, just a regular old slab) under his light and occasionally climb on some "vines"with leaves on them, and he doesn’t get overly scared when you’re sitting by him though earlier he whipped at me. However, he just went let us even touch him through the cage or get near him when moving slowly.

I’d LOVE to be able to have him sit on the couch or crawl on my shoulder -- but i don’t see it happening with his current behaviour.
He would surely swipe at me, scratch me and go try to climb my wall.

well mine has whipped me like 10 times lol, make sure you just take it dont jump when he does this act like it doesnt bother you... have you tried spraying him with water once he relaxes to the water pet his head/ neck area till he relaxes to you then slowly slide your hand uder his belly while hes preoccioupied with the neck massage and pick him up once he’s out of the cage then just keep petting and rubbing him... something you can try mine lets me pet him and pick him up whenever now plus i have a harness mine is 27 inches took me 3 months to be able to hold him or pet him...and now he asks to come out he sees me n lifts his belly... but mine still freaks n gets pissed if you try to pet his tail... so try not to pet the tail lol
