 Worried

Good Morning my friends,

I hope today is a wonderful day for you and your babies :)

Today is day 7 that Sam is in his new enclosure. I have to admit though I will also admit that I was reluctant to post, that I am worried. My wild child for the most part has vanished, Sam is mopey with the exception of bursts of mad digging. He is also not eating, not even his well loved watermelon. Nor is he defecating though that is obvious I suppose as nothing is going in.
He did urinate on Monday along with passing a large amount of thick yellow urates which I know is a sign of dehydration. Along with having two big bowls of fresh water in his enclosure, I am spraying him many times a day along with his surroundings as well, He has been licking the water on the wall and all and yesterday actually drank from one of the bowls as I was splashing in it and he came to it (yes we know he is quirky). He usually gets 5 organic blueberries with breakfast which he is just crazy about and until today, he did not even eat those, But being high in Phosphorous, I certainly do not want to rely on blueberries and those few will not sustain him nutritionally anyway.
Aside from his being mopey, not eating and eliminating (which is certainly too much) he seems to be fine. I know when he was ill, he clearly had the signs but this is not the case.
SO, when do I start worrying beyond the stress stage of change?
One would think that he would be content though he does not seem discontented but it is apparent that he is not himself.
His humidity is between 70 and 80 percent as well and his temps are good, Actually better than what they were before.

Appreciate advice and thoughts as always.
Have a beautiful day

Tone~

Hi Tone

Hang in there. Cujo/Buddy decided today was the day he would eat and boy did he eat. Four plates full of greens and one plate of greens/squash/parsnip mixture. I guess he decided he had better eat or else lol. Its been 8 days since I’ve gotten him and this is the first time he has really attacked his food, other than a bite here and there. I guess now that it is going in something will start to come out since he hasn’t done that yet either. I did keep him in his tank he was in at the zoo as I didn’t want to stress him too much. Sorry didn’t mean to hijack your post, just wanted to let you know to keep faith, he will eventually settle down and he won’t starve himself. He’ll eat when he gets hungry, at least he is drinking a little. You would think they would appreciate what we do for them wouldn’t you? lol. No, they would rather stress us out and cause us undue worry. I hope Sam improves shortly and begins to enjoy his new home.
Cindy

Hey Cindy,

I am so glad Buddy is eating.
I was just so used to Sam being...well Sam. He was always very ADHD so this worries me aside of course his non interest in food and not "going". My son said I am being a pain but I do worry. It is the Mother in me :)

Thanks for your positive words and the update on Buddy
Never a hyjack where I am concerned :)

Enjoy your evening
Tone~

Thanks Annie. I am just stressing. I am ready to take him "to the doctor" (what I always say to Sam haha) but Ant says to just let him be. You’d think this crazy, lovable lizard would be in his glory now with this new house...sigh

I did get him to eat a few bites of collard and literally shoved a couple of pieces of watermelon in his mouth. I guess I should not do that either. Damn, I can be pushy :)

Thanks girls
Appreciate it!

Tone~

Thanks Annie. The holes in this plastic mesh are big enough that his little nosey kinda pokes through more than rubs. His last enclosure was nylon mesh so that is where he really rubbed. Hopefully today will be a better day.

Appreciate the advice again. My best to you and the entire family
Have a wonderful day

Hugs,
Tone~

Hey Tone

He will eventually come around. We decided to change Buddy to Einstein. That really is a play on the name lol. When I came into the room this morning and said "hey sunshine" (right) Einstein got up and wandered down to his empty plate laid his head in and gave me the "u think u can feed me already" look lol. I took him outside and put him in his outdoor enclosure where he got in his pool and did his business. So that is two worries off my mind. So I guess I am just telling you to have faith and stop worrying, he’ll start to eat soon and then he’ll naturally progress to the other business :). Tell Sam to shape up lol.

hey tone, when i first moved speedy to his new cage, he developed major attitude, and didn’t eat for almost a week. i was starting to really panic, but now, he is going through a huge bowl every day. i would just give him a couple days to adjust to his new surroundings and see how he does... good luck and keep us posted.

Cindy, hope you are sticking with Einstein now..haha I always did that with Ant’s creatures. He would name them and then I would name them to what I saw fit. Our male bird is DOLLY (TG haha) that was named Nibs to Nibby to Nibblets and well Dolly. When he got Sam he told me under no circumstances would I re-name him, though I think he thinks his name is MA :) I am Italian what can I say? hehe but glad he is doing well and yes, I will tell my love to shape up..thankyou!

Fire, It is day NINE. My wild ADHD child is very mopey and even naps now. He is not sick I can definitely attest to that but he is OFF. He did eat a collard leaf (sans stem of course) while I held it yesterday and BEGGED...haha I am such a pain in the but I do worry. He went to the bathroom a tiny bit but he seemed to strain whilst doing so. I do not bathe him due to his fear of water so I do not even have the soaking method to assist but I am spraying him constantly along with everything else in there and he is drinking due to some obvious dehydration. Hopefully today will be a better day but so far it is not.
Crazy lizard wanted out of that old hab like mad and now that he is in a nice big one, is not happy. Typical male ;)

Thanks for the positive feedback

Have a beautiful day all
I am flu bound on this end but the show still has to go on :)

Hugs,
Toni~

hey tone can you put in an kitty litter box with shallow water??? i ve had some rescues that were afraid of the bathtub but fine with an kitty litter box// i guess the bath tub is just too big for them??? i ve always put HOT water in at first and put it in the enclosure because by the time they gather enough confience to get in it is warm by then but of course our iguanas are in the basement so i have to walk down steep steps with hot water and it always cools down a bit on the way down

Annie, settling down would be wonderful but he is downright MOPEY. Pretty much would lay in the same spot all day long and not move if not for my CONSTANT nudging him. Still no eating or defecating. I am worried!

Hey Karlie, I had put one in there when we first put him in there and he found it and somehow freaked and knocked it over, Amazing isn’t it how a little water somehow turns into a river..haha he has not been to the bottom since but of course, I can fill it again. Since I can literally go in his hab now, I do try and pick him up and he will have no part of it, This is the lizard who ALWAYS wanted to come out and you’d have to fend him off to keep him in,,,sheesh,
His belly is not hard though and his eyes look clear so I am guessing he is not ill and he does move just to get away from my nudges, Shouldn’t he be okay in here by now? I mean it is a NICE enclosure. Had to take out his one giant artificial plant though since he knocked his bowl over and what knows what fell in it and there were fruit flies last night.
I imagine he is awake, Got new neighbors upstairs that must have lived with herds of elephants hehe

thanks girls
I’ll of course keep you posted in either direction

Have a beautiful day
Tone~

UPDATE: Sam ate a little bit of squash and a couple of organic blueberries and even went to the bathroom a little, He is currently in WILD mode which makes me kinda happy since I know now that he is definitely not ill. I picked him up to have him splice my lower lip. I am a bleeder..haha

Have a great day all, Maybe I can get some photos later on

thanks for all the positive and reassuring thoughts
