 Healthy Iguana

I took my Iguana Iggy to the vet today and he has no problems. I also found out that he is a male and my vet warned me about how aggressive male Iguanas can be, does anyone male or female own a male Iguana and if so, had any problems?

I own a male iggy who is sweet as ever.Diamond’s never had problems with aggression other than with the mirror. lol

Yes male iggys can be VERY aggressive around breeding season...Sometime you just have to feed and water them and let them have their space......

But also female can be just as bad..I know my female can get really pissy at times like today,,,,she’s been in a bad mood....woke up on the wrong side of the branch this morning....LOL.....

I have two males that are juvies but they are to young yet...but they have their good days and bad...I have 6 iggys all together 4 females and two males....

So my advice to you is just be careful and get to know your iggy and his moods....

i agree with poco, get to know your iggie. i have had my little guy for several months now (rescued him in april) i know to back off and let him have his space when he is shedding, but i was gone for a week, and he has gone through 5 sheds back to back. i just had to pick him up and hold him earlier today, and my hand shows how upset he was, cause he pretty much shredded my palm... oh well, it will heal, and he ended up settling down and getting some attention and pettings which he likes to lean into... over all though, i think the key is knowing your iggie, and spending time with him/her...

he is as sweet as ever !!


he gives kisses on command sorry it is so blurry tho

That is cool about Caper giving kisses on command. When I bought my juvenile (Iggie) from the pet store, on the price tag it says mean, I asked what was so mean about him and the lady said that he will tail slap you, when I brought him home, I let him settle down for a bit and I decided to pick him up, he tailed slapped a little bit and tried to bite me, now he occasionally bites but, rarely tail slaps me. Hopefully this is just a phase and he will mellow down before he gets to adult size.

Caper is truly an one of kind of iguana. more like an dog than an iguana he comes on command kisses on command even lays down on command.. i have 10 iguanas and none of the others do this.. he is my prized boy and i will be so DEVASTED when he passes away hopefully not for at least 20 more years!!!

all of them tail whip!! its an defensive method.. same with biting.. caper bit me once.. i required 15 sitches!!!.. and he was in heat.. so seriously when he is in heat i leave him alone for literally a month without handling he lets me know when he wants a bath or food.. thats all i do for him.. so 2 months of a year he is in a cage locked up with luv toys and warning signs LOL!!! he is the WORST TERROR when he is in heat!!! but i have other males that arent too bad.. but you can tell when they want to be left alone!!!

once he is out of heat he stratches at his door and gives me a look like HI MOMMY!!!! IM BACK! Lol and goes back to chilling on the couch with the cats and dogs!!! he is my pride and joy!!
