Thank you, The red Southern hognose is my new favorite snake. I love Southern Hognose the best over other hogs but the red is special for sure.

I’ve always loved the Western hognose the most. Their shovel noses are more pronounced and I love their natural colors.

To me they are all pretty cool and each have something unique about them. The Westerns I like because of the relative ease of caring for and get a decent size. The Easterns are cool because they have so many variations of how they look and the Southerns are my all time favorite because that’s what I grew up finding. I lived in Simus central and would see them quite often coming home or leaving my house when I was a kid..of course now 20 years later and all the land development, there aren’t any there now. Also look at the southerns nose too, it’s as upturned as a Western or close to

Funny how we love what we grew up around. All these snakes were found this season in a 2-3 week period. I might be out in AZ this summer and hope to find a western...just taking pics of the stuff I find then releasing

Thanks Sloane, The red colored ones are pretty uncommon to find in the trade...I know one guy whos sells them in Sarasota, Florida area. I don’t sell them, I will be breeding them once they become old enough but more of a project than anything.

Ya know, before I got the guys information I decided to try to find one myself and lucked out and got one. The southern hognose are a much tougher snake to take care of than the westerns. Pretty much if you live out of the range of southern hognose snakes providing food for them might be tough. Probably part of the reason you don’t see Southerns at snake shows for sale
