 QUESTION?

There has not been much scientific research done on this topic, but I have seen MANY CB Eastern Hognoses die in under 3 years that were fed exclusively rodents with hair.
I have never seen consistent premature deaths in any other species of hognose that were fed exclusively rodents (either with or without hair).

So, from what I have seen...I would say that it can be true of Eastern Hognoses to have difficulties passing fur and may eventually die early because of it. But for all other hognoses, I have not seen enough evidence that would make me think that fur causes a problem in their digestion.

Also, I would think that everyone would agree that Western and Mexican Hognoses have absolutley NO PROBLEM digesting fur.

Anyway, that’s most of what I know on the topic. Hope it helped!

 QUESTION?

Well, some hognose species just don’t seem to have any interest in rats...but you never know.

What kind of hogs do you have that you are asking about? If they are westerns, you can feed them just like any other snake. Fur should never be a problem.

 QUESTION?

Pinkie rats are fattier than adult mice, though, so that can be a problem too. I stick with mice, but mine’s a western.

 QUESTION?

Yea ill try mice for a while i guess and if they start acting weird towards them il just get them to eat something else like store bought frogs what kinds of frogs wont hurt my snakes if i feed them there are fire belly toads i dont think those would hurt them

 QUESTION?

Nevermind im pretty sure it would hurt them cause usually bright colors represent toxic so id rather take my chances on mice what about lizards like anoles

 QUESTION?

Any pet shop frog cheap enough to use as a feeder is not going to be something that’s been kept under the best of conditions, ya know? Crowded, treated as a cheap throwaway item, and kept in close proximity to herp pathogens from all over the world is not a good combination.
What about those African soft-haired rats? Leaner than mice, and their fur is probably a bit easier to pass, too. A lot of herp shows carry them for finicky ball pythons. There might even be a company that ships frozen ones in bulk.
