 Thinking of getting hermit crabs

Iv been doing tons or research in preperation of getting some hermies. I have a ten gallon and plan on getting two or three of them. I was planning to use wet sand for substrate. Or course climbing objects, hiding places, a fresh water dish, a salt water dish, all that fun stuff. Im a little nervous about heating though. Do I use a reptile heating bulb? will a regular house hold bulb heat good enought w/ a night reptile bulb at night?

you can use a regular heat lamp in the day, they like it a little cooler at night. :)

when you chose one make sure you pick the fastest one out of its shell in water so its more fun!

Before making any purchases read up at the hermit crab association. Hermits are much more complicated to take care of than I realized. Going there saved the lives of my hermit crabs. It sounds like you are off to a good start!

About the light, as long as you keep your humidity up, I like using a reptile light (about 70 watt or so) above the tank with a red bulb. The red bulb allows night time viewing (most of their activities happen at night) and it works better (in my opinion than under tank heaters which hermit owners place on the side of the tank).

Temps should be 80 degrees or so and 80% humidity.
