Help - lizard died on way home from store!

We just bought a grass lizard at a reputable local reptile store. The drive home is about 10 minutes. We stopped for sandwiches, about another 15 minutes during which time we left the container under the seat in the shade, and the windows down. The lizard was still seemingly fine when we got back in the car, drove across the street to our apartment, parked, and by the time (2 minutes later) that we walked back up to our apt, the lizard was no longer moving. the clerk put some crickets in his container before we left the store, on which he was munching happily. Is it possible that he choked on a cricket? We can’t figure out what happened and are obvs upset. We will "replace" him tomorrow but are now scared to bring home another pet as we feel like lizard murders! Anyone have any clues as to what could have happened.

Did the container have holes for ventilation? Was your car temps hot or cold?

The container did have vent holes - it was the one that the store put him in. While driving I may have had the air on low. But it was neither hot nor cold. When we stopped for sandwiches the car may have warmed up to 80’s - but that was for 15 mins max. And he seemed ok when we got back into the car. Keep wishing we just went straight home. So sad:-( He was eating the whole way home! Could he have choked?

Its not your fault so don’t feel sad normally the petstore people is suppose to tell you the max time their suppose the be in temporary carriers like boxes, plastic bag,or containers. Was the lizards eatting really quick like omg I’m starving I have to eat these before someone else do. I blame this on the petstore people not you guys...its okay but complain to them and bring the lizard and reciept to the store.

He was eating fast! the store gave him about 7 crickets which he ate all in the time it took as to get home. didn’t think much of it because our leopard gecko can chow down tons of crickets as soon as we put them in the cage.

Sadly he probably did. You should go back and tell them.
