Gilas are very venomous from what ive heard. If u got bit by a gila and didnt go to the hospital you would have 99.9% chance that u would die.

Yah right!! I live in Arizona! If you get bitten by a Gila It depends on how long it bit you. from what i herd they can hang on to you pretty hard with their teeth. So like I said if you get bitten for about a few seconds then its nothing if you get bitten for like a minute, then its just asd venomous as a rattler.

No documented deaths caused solely by a Gila monster bite have occurred in the United States.
It is believed that a prolonged bite to a small individual, such as an infant or toddler, could result in death.
Severe pain following a helodermatid bite may last many hours and generalized weakness can persist for several days.Their venom is not very toxic to anything much larger than a mouse or bird.

I think this post gets put up atleast once everyother day. I feel bad for you Gila Guys on this forum. Anyway they are pretty venomous. However it depends on how long the bite is. The longer the bite the more venom it can put into your system. As if it is a neurotoxin I do not know. It is pretty deadly to small humans like todlers but very painful to adults. It basically in the end all depends on how long the bite lasts. However the Gila Monster has very powerful jaws so its up to him when to let go.

P.S. I am from the Iguana forum but I put in about a year of research. Made a fue calls.

lets just say if your bit by one, treat the wound as if it were like any other bite from a venomous herp.

They’re not that venomous compared to venomous snakes. The bite is not an anti-coagulate and causes no tissue damage. This is not the same case with most snake venoms, so provided that you are bitten, it is not a huge cause for concern. It will hurt like heck, but if you’re a macho dude, you may not have to go to the hospital.

well first you would be a idiot to get bit by one unless you owned one or accidentaly got bit. I have been bit by a huge sucker in arizona. but since i was looking for rattlesnake earlier i read a book about the gilas. just put the head under water. since it will need to come up to breath. another thing you could do is put a cold towel on the head. NEVER PULL THE HEAD OFF OR HANK IT. as it will tear it your arm or whatever it bited.

There have been several deaths by gila monster bites recorded (1994, Venomous Animals of the World). But every person that died were intoxicated (in short, gila and a six pack don’t go together nicely).

You would have to be an absolute idiot to get bitten by a wild gila though, as they are extremely shy and slow.

I agree, no sane or sober person would get bitten by a wild Gila Monster. And not positive but I believe if you go into the hospital or Doctor with a bite you also get questioned by the agency that over sees their protection and are possibly ticketed also. That on top of recuperating! At that point you are saying was it worth it. LOL

I’ve been bit by an adult and it sure is hell after the bite. I didn’t go to the hospital and I’m still myself with no limbs or fingers missing!
