Leachie Caging Leachie or New Caledonian geckos are the largest species of gecko. I was recently at a show and was talking to the guy from Leapin Leachies a well known leachinus breeder. I asked him what would be good for caging because I was planning on buying one soon. He said that he keeps them in 30 gallon tanks for breeding and singly in a 15-20 gallon. I feel like this is way way to small but i dont know how to feel because he is a very large leachie breeder and i would guess he knows better than anyone else. I want to know how you guys feel? honestly i feel that a cage that small is way to small

Leachie Caging I’m not an expert on Leachies but Id say that expert might be keeping his in the bare minimum size. If he has a bunch of Leachies that he is breeding an selling I’m sure he wouldn’t have a bunch of 4hx2wx2d cages for them all. Think of his cages as temporary living quarters until they can be bought an placed in a huge lavish home where they can be truly happy. But that’s just my opinion :)

Leachie Caging leachie adults honestly dont need alot of space.. its been seen in keeping adults that they lay down a scent trail for territory and stick to that and rarely go off its course. as juviniles yes they explore as my male decided to do one night when he was younger and i forgot to lock his cage(hes in an exoterra)
also as babies its been noticed for whatever reason they seem to grow a bit faster while kept in smaller cages. which thinking back to when my male was younger he did seem to grow faster in the 15 gallon i keept him in before i moved him to the 24x18x24(LxWxH) exoterra cage.
i have heard this from leapin leachies, clark, and a few other breeders that have heard it and tried it for themselves. though i still keep them in a bit bigger cage than what they say and have been told by a few that the cage is big enough for a breeding pair though there will never be a pair as i dont have $ to buy a sexed adult lol.. that and i dont think id b able to sell the babies theyre just so darn cute
