 Mites on Turkish/Mediterr Gecko??

Hello! WE’re fairly new to this gecko thing, but need somne advice...first off, I am 90% sure this is a turkish or MEditerrain GEcko...is it? We found all out Geckos while working 3rd shift at a pet store (we’re electricians) the owner was like "hey you can keep any of the lizards you catch at night...so we caught some :)
2nd....this gecko wasn’t this big when we caught him/her 2 months ago...is she ? about to drop eggs???

Third, we had 4 of these big "guys" two of them have died...both had open sores on their body though...but we did see 1 mite (I think it was a mite) 4 months ago + or - and we want to make sure we do what we can to make their life as healthy as we can....are these mites on this gecko?

thanks for the help!!!

OH! The baby is one of the 26 eggs we found in an electrical box while working at the store. It has been incubating for 30-40 days and he arrived via the egg about a week ago!!

Thanks!
Jim

 Mites on Turkish/Mediterr Gecko??

The first one, the fat one, is probably a Mediterranean. The second is neither a med nor a turkish. It’s most likely some form of regular house gecko. Pet stores tend to carry both meds and regular house geckos in large frequency due to their abundance. The requirements are pretty similar in either case.

You can tell Med. geckos apart from regular house geckos because Med’s have the white specs and a spotty decoration. House geckos have bands of color and no white pimples. House geckos tend to be smoother while Meds have a bumpy texture (due to the specks).

Keep males separated for territorial reasons. They will stress each other out or kill each other. This tends to be common throughout all species of gecko.

The one fat one may be gravid. If it was free in the store with other geckos, there’d be no reason to doubt it.

As for mites, I can’t tell you. All varieties of house geckos tend to be rampant with parasites, most being wild-caught and the rest living in the wild. Many end up dieing from both stress and the boosted parasite count when brought into a new environment. There is some ’mite off’ stuff at your local pet supply store you can look into getting, but the investment is all up to you. Quarantine any house geckos you deem to knowingly have mites and clean out the substrate in the tanks.

 Mites on Turkish/Mediterr Gecko??

Kelli...
Thanks for your reply....I am thinking the Med is with eggs also....I have 2 smaller Med Geckos that I raised from real small...well last week we decided to put all the meds in the same tank...bad idea!! The two "little" meds went nuts, clicking and clacking and wagging their tail at the one in the photo above....they even went as far as to bite her(?) face and not let go...my question is this...does that pretty much mean the two littles are male and she(?) a female? We immediately seperated them from her(?) and put them back in their own tank together and they do not exhibit any of that behavior anymore.....we found them when they were about 1.5-2 inches long and they’ve been together in a tank ever since, but we were shocked to see them grab Grizles face!! and she didnt try to bite them back...is that normal behavior?? Male dominance ? Sorry to inundate you with questions, we just dont know anyone in our area with these or that knows anything about them....

On a last note, the Med Gecko in the pic above is now just laying in her coconut and occasionally coming out to follow the house gecko around the tank until she gets tired then she carefully scales down the wall to her coconut again....but tonight she was barely lifting her head....she looked wore out. now, their temps dropped off to 66 in the blink of an eye, I quickly covered the tank fo try to trap in heat, and turned on their undertank. do they get tired when ready to drop eggs? THanks a ton for your help!!!!

Jim
