There are actuality 2 types of gold dust day geckos...Looks like you have an Angulated Gold Dust...is there yellow/gold flecks over the fount shoulder area? Hard to tell in the picture. Also the marking on the head seem a little off to me...could you get a close up over head shot?

Well first I guess I should ask, theres no chance of him beihg a giant right? I really didnt think so but... No, theres no yellow flecks around the shoulders. Do they dissaper/appear with age? The second pic is the farthest my camera zooms in. I think (compared to pics of Angulated Gold Dust geckos the markings on the head seem very similar. Whats the other type of gold dust? thanks for the help, its greatly appreciated.

Jake~
You don’t have a gold dust of either kind, IMO, from the pictures...I’m thinking you have a dubia or a yellow-throated, maybe. Dues your gecko have a while lateral line that separates the belly from the green upper body? Its hard to tell from the pictures.

Let me know...oh and do you know its age and svl?

BTW I did post this on anther forum were there are a lot more day gecko people...here is a link...

Link

And from what I can tell he looks good (but it depends on what type we are talking about here) Also you need to add more to the way of higher hiding places. There are a few places that make vines that will stick to the wall and high lateral bamboo or sticks help out a lot.

Let me know about the other stuff....

According to the phelsuma gods ;) I was also wrong.
What you have is a Phelsuma v-nigra comoreagrandensis. I had disregarded this sp because the pictures I have of them dues not show the head markings that yours dues. Be careful with the care f this sp. it tends to be much more advanced than the others we were talking about. Also the common name is Grand Comoro Day Gecko that may help when you are looking for more info.

This gecko dues need a lot more plants since they are even more shy than the other sp. we were talking about. You will want to make sure to add a few more plants to the tank.
Good luck!

youve, really been a great help. I will get some more plants asap. Now that we’re on the subject, do you know any commonly available flowering plants that would be safe in there? Just to brighten it up a little more... I will get some more snake plants, and a small photos. maybe a ponytail palm... When you said yellow throaated, that reminded me. his throat has faint yelow and blue lines on it, does than mean anything? I wasnt really looking for an expert level day gecko, lol, but I’ll sure give it a stab! If it survived at petco, then it cant be too delicate, right? (it was there for three months!!). I have an acount at that site tyou posted, its just really confusing to get around there!! Thanks again, I really appreciate it.
