Is it normal for a Tokay to stop barking and opening its mouth at you after 2 days of having him?

I’m not worried, it’s just all I have read said it would be nearly impossible to tame a Tokay. After 2 days he didn’t even open his mouth at anyone anymore, or try to run away if you hold him.

I have only seen 2 tokays that were HEALTHY that were tame. Most people who have shown pictures of them holding their geckos, the geckos looked extremely sickly and ready to die and that’s why they did not put up a fight. Just make sure it’s tail is nice and thick. I’ve had mine since he was 2.5" long and 3 weeks old, now he’s almost 4 years old. He will eat out of my bare hand and let me get really close to him but if i try to pick him up he WILL bite me. I’m sure if i tried to hold him everyday he might become tame or he could become really stressed, quit eating and die. I’m not willing to take that chance.
He has a huge cage 5ft tall, 2 ft wide X 2 ft wide and i’m pretty sure he’s happy. Goodluck !!

You can tame Tokays it just takes Patience. Try not grab him but coax him to sit on your hand and let sit on your hand above your eyes so he doesn’t see your eyes as a threat.
