 Leo food question

I recently took in a adult male leopard gecko he’s about 2 im not sure how often they fed him but he is skinny his tail is sunken n has lines down the length of it i had geckos before but its been few years since ive had them i purchased crickets, superworms, butterworms, mealworms, and hornworms for him he’s been eating 7-10 a day of the larger bugs and 14+ of smaller ones is this norm or just him gourging himself because he’s underweight? Im planning on ordering the Leopard gecko sampler from rainbow mealworms but until it gets here mainly what i have already is whats local what should I give him to plump him up?

Hello! If he was under fed, then he certainly could be over eating to make up for it. Sounds like you are giving him a diverse diet, which is great! As long as he is doing well, I would just try to plump him up slowly with a healthy diet-which seems like you got that under control.

There are so many different opinions out there about how often and how much to feed. I typically feed my guy a big meal every third day, or smaller meals daily to every other day. Currently I have some Hormworms I picked up from a show, so he is getting 1-2 big, not huge, Hornworms and then alternate with 5-8 large mealworms or large crickets. I have tried phoenix worms and dubia roaches-both he turns his nose up at (however I have heard that most leos love them).

Long ago, my leo regurgitated a couple of times over a few weeks here and there, then nothing since. I would imagine that like other animals, if they eat too fast or too much they can vomit it up. If he cannot keep food down at all, that could be a sign of a blockage. If its occasionally, but ongoing, then maybe parasites, stress, or something in his diet. As far as blood...hard to say, if it was bright red, could of been from irritation of regurgitation. Or were the crickets fed something with a red dye or color?

It wont hurt to fast him for a few days and then give him small portions to be sure he can keep it down. Sounds like your temps are good-so he should be able to digest properly. Make sure he is still passing stools.

I too was on here years and years ago, and down sized my collection to one leo, now I am getting back into the hobby and growing my collection again :) Then it was certainly more busy, sad to see it so quiet these days.

Ok how do i get the female to an ok breeding weight n asap she appears to have eggs in her ive had them n seperated them due to how small she is compared to him but they were together to start so entirely possible they mated. She appears young id say year max ive tried contacting previous owner to get rough age to no luck yet. But she has a stripe down her back n kind of bands still pic is when i first got them so you can see the difference i just dont want her to experience any complications with pushing out the eggs ive bred in the past but never had a female so young or tiny

Fist off, they are adorable! She looks to be very healthy with a nice and fat tail! I think she will do just fine, just keep up with all the good care that you are giving them :)

Even if shes young? Im definitely making sure they have enough food he’s put on quite some weight n his tail is filled out now hers is getting fat. They finally got back to me n said she was around 12wks in march according to the pet store so that would make her roughly 4-5mths? But she looks so much bigger than that so guessing an age is tough.
