 40 gallon or 55 gallon?

Since I’m getting a third gecko, they’re having a sale on tanks ($1 per gallon). I have room for both and I’m planning on letting all three geckos live in the same tank. I was wondering if a 40 gallon breeder tank or a 55 gallon tank would be better. What do you think?

Whichever has the most floor space. Bring a tape measure. Since leos are terrestrial, it wouldn’t make sense getting a tank that’s all about height with little walking room.

I’m sure everyone else told you this, but remember it should be all females and all adults. Quarantine your new leo in a separate tank for 90 days + a vet visit to rule out parasites and crypto. And when you do eventually put the new one with the others, be aware of bullying and fights. Sometimes even females wont get along and the clearest indication is sadly going to be one getting thinner or developing half-moon bite marks on their head and tail.

Bigger tanks are fun to deck out. I suggest you try this out. http://www.lizard-landscapes.com/

Thanks, and I’m most likely going to get a 40 gallon breeder:) Assuming that the dimensions of the tanks at the store are the same as the ones I looked up on the internet, 40 gallon has an area of 648 while the 55 has an area of 624. If that’s how you would calculate the floor space. I just multiplied the length and width, which is how I assumed you do it.

Pet Supplies Plus does these crazy 1$ a gallon sales once to twice a year. So a 20 gallon tank would be 20$, 40 is 40$, 55 is 55$, etc. I think Petsmart might do a similar sale, but I can’t verify that.

It pays to go for fish tanks opposed to reptile terrariums, then get a mesh lid to cover the top. It’s the same bloody tank, and a fraction of the price of those reptile ones.

That’s not bringing up garage sales. Garage sales can be your friend. People get a tiny water leak in a huge fish tank, can’t use it, and sell it to make room. Great stuff, that.
