 Just thought I’d share...

Thought I’d just share something rather aggrivating. Over the weekend, i let my dad hold my leopard gecko, Draco. Just held her, sat on my bed with her in his hands, everything was cool, then he literally grabbed her by the tail "just to know what it feels like." When I got after him, he said "Oh, she’ll get over it. Do you see how those kids on the internet play with the things?" I think it would take a long time for Draco to ’get over it’ if my dad made her drop her tail...

You should tell your dad that he’s a moron and to grow up and, to use an old parental saying, if the "kids on the internet" jumped off bridges, would he do that too?

instead of being mad at your dad you should teach him!!!! he seems to be uneducated in leos so mabe you can show him that yes the tails fall off and that they are delicate creatures but dnt tell him that he a moron like the other member said he is still your father

I wouldn’t call my dad a moron cause he’s my dad, but that would be different for anyone who isn’t in my family :) Besides, if i did get mad at him and tell him that what he did was wrong he is the kind of person who would just blow me off and not really think too much of it; he probably would be more focused on me being such a jerk and that would obviously defeat the whole purpose of teching him. Maybe I will just try to teach my dad some things and not grant him permission whenever he asks to put his hand in my leo’s cage until he promises never to deliberately grab/touch her tail and understand why. The only thing that makes me remember the incident and still be mildly irritated by it is because whenever I see if my leo wants to crawl on my hand she seems a little skittish.
Maybe when I try to tech him I will also tell him to observe her body language because he strokes her from behind and that makes her feel very uncomfortable by the looks of it, particularly without even seeing his hand first.
Then again, my dad is the kind of person who thinks reptiles are cool but doesn’t think too much of their feelings; if he wants to do something he doesn’t care about the way the poor critter feels. Well, I sure have lots of info to cram into my dad’s brain, and he works lots of irregular hours, so this will be interesting... and I must say that my dad’s brain retains information about reptiles and how they feel just about as well as a brick wall (that’s probably a little harsh...) We’ll just have to see how things go down

oh yeah and my dad thought my corn snake could coexist with my leo :) Just thought I’d share

Chill. It’s really not that bad. So he doesn’t know much about LGs, so what? He doesn’t own them.

Honestly, I really doubt she’s traumatized from her tail being touched. She probably doesn’t even remember, nor care. They’re meant to drop their tails. Their tails are probably the thing that scared them least when grabbed. I don’t think it was like, "Oh crap, my tail might fall off because someone grabbed it". I’m sure she was startled by it, but I really don’t think she’s sitting in her cage thinking about it. Again, she probably doesn’t remember it.

And there’s really no need to make him sound so bad. If he’s not educated on reptiles, and he doesn’t own them, who really cares.

...And as stupid as it sounds I was probably more harsh since i felt more protective of Draco since she’s my first and only leo (had her since Jun 26 08). Just thought I’d add that for whatever reason...
