Cage pic’s pls?

hi all,

i am very interested in getting a leo and have been reading everything i can find.i still have a few questions though..

what sex is better for a soitary pet?..
(no plans of breading)

And can you guys post a few pic’s of your setups?
(i know what thay will need but im looking for placement ideas/decorations)

p.s

im not new to heps. i have a v-cham, a long tailed grass lizzard and an anole.

Leo geckos in general are solitary creatures. They aren’t very fond of being housed together and when they are housed together you should have 3 females to one male. If my camera will work I will try to get some pictures of my set up.

by what sex is better for a solitary pet i meant ?.. what sex has less problems?
i only ever plan on having one. i know "some" lizards have different problems depending on sex.. ie: like getting egg bound(female) or become highly aggressive if not mated(male)

any advice would be appreciated =)

I’ve had ,and have, both. You run the risk of females becoming egg bound but I’ve never had that problem. Of the three males I’ve had only one was aggressive and I believe it was because of my boyfriend I had at the time. My male is just as sweet as he can be and he is everyone’s favorite. lol, that’s how he got his name Homie. My female I have now is very timid and though I’ve had her for a year now she hasn’t grown out of it. But that’s not to say you’ll have the same problem. Honestly I don’t think there is much difference when it comes to males or females as pets.

I’m kind of leaning towards a male but that all depends on what is available when we go to get one.

i know this is a long shot but anyone know any reputable breeder’s in western Canada? I’m in Calgary Alberta. =)

When going to a breeder or even a pet store you are more likely to find female geckos. They are both healthy. You don’t really have to worry about a female becoming egg bound. I had my female for 3 years before she had eggs, and they only reason she did was because I put a male in with her. (Females are sexually mature about the age of 1yr)
You should always do a health check on your geckos about once a week. this meaning you take a weight. This can tell you a lot on whether or not your having problems. I wouldn’t worry to much about egg binding, esp. if you have only one. You should always have a moist hide.

Actualy at pet stores you are more likley to get males. They buy them in wholesales and their suppliers incubate at high temps so the eggs will hatch faster. So temps around 87 88 give them males.

i have always heard female as well
b/c it is more efficient b/c they dont have to incubate at higher temps

also 5 of the girls girls i have they all came from the petstore

and i work at a petstore and we almost always get female in

so idk

in the next few weeks ill have my leos tanks done so ill have some ne picks up soon and i might be picking up a new trio next week i cant wait the one is a very dark brown and one is an albino and just a plain normal
