Two Questions about Leos Okay, my first question is can a leo loose its tail more than once? My leo I’ve had for 5 years now dropped his tail 2 weeks ago and I’m not seeing any regrowth. It does look like it’s healing but not like he’s growing a new one. The reason I ask if they can loose their tails twice is because I’m not sure if he had lost his tail before I bought him. It wasn’t a bulbous shape, but it also wasn’t long and lean like they are supposed to be. this is an old picture of him. So I’m worried that he may not grow a tail back... ?
Also, I can’t get my geckos to eat anything that doesn’t move. So how do I feed them treats such as fruit? Is there some kind of trick to getting them to eat it?

Two Questions about Leos His tail was broken off before from what i see in the old picture. I think they can loose their tail multiple times, but i think only on the part that wasn’t lost before, because his tail was not broken off all the way the first time.
Don’t feed them fruit, they are not supposed to eat anything besides bugs, i feed all meal worms, and you can feed them that, or crickets. Those are the most common food choices, there are others however.

Two Questions about Leos It appears that in the old picture of the gecko, the end of the tail was dropped. So, yes leopard geckos can shed their tails more than once. I would wait a few more weeks and see if there is any new growth. Regarding feeding them, leopard geckos should only be offered live food. Fruit is not part of their natural diet, and should not be fed to geckos in captivity.

Two Questions about Leos okay, then I was only miss-i formed. I’ve never fed mine anything but crickets and meal-worms/super-worms. But when I heard fruit makes a nice treat for them I thought I might try it. But now, I guess I wont.
But it should grow back? I’m just worried, this is my first experience with any of my geckos ever losing their tails.

Two Questions about Leos How did it lose the tail? Did you grab it wrong or something? After a year of having a leo, its nearly impossible to scare any of mine into dropping theirs. I can literally pick them up by their tails and nothing will happen. Check your husbandry and see if theres anything thats stressing it out. Like that sand substrate :P
From the pic, it does appear that the tip was dropped before. They can drop their tails several times in their life. Its a defensive thing. Put neosporin on it to prevent infection. Should regrow nicely with regular feeding.
As for feeding, they cant digest fruits. For treats you should try waxworms. They love em. I have tried feeding a pinky to my breeding females and they seem to love it. Just that ive read that pinkies can cause liver disease. Not sure if there are any facts in that but it seems that in moderation it would be ok.

Two Questions about Leos Actually, he’s an escape artist. He figured out a way to climb the cord of his heat rock and he escaped from the 20 gallon tank I had him in. [and he is no longer on sand substrate the picture is about 4 years old] but I came home from grocery shopping and he had escaped from his tank... I went to the bathroom and he had found his way in there... I hit him with the bathroom door and he dropped his tail. I know how hard it is to scare them.. Homie is my baby and he goes everywhere with me. Anyway, when it happened I was horrified and I feel like it’s all my fault. =[ That night I also went and got a new tank for them and now have a 50 gallon tall tank. At the moment though he is being kept in a 10 gallon tank with paper towel substrate, a rock hide, a water dish, and a plant with a heat lamp. I have been putting neosporin on it and he eats well, I’m just not seeing any growth of the tail.

Two Questions about Leos Yeah I understand the escape thing. Hmm heat rocks arent really that good in my opinion. I prefer heat tape that goes under the tank or behind. Lamps are decent but at night you still need a heating source.
The growth will be pretty slow. It is almost purely fats that are stored so as long as he is eating good it will grow back with no problem.

Two Questions about Leos i agree with boobyvu
heat rocks can cause thrid degree burns b/c they dont burn evenly and someof the coils get hotter than others
i would go with a under tank heater
