Yes, Leopard Geckos are extremely poisonous and can kill you if they eat meal worms because it makes their skin secrete a special toxin, it only effects a small 5.4% of humans but, if your in that 5.4%, bye bye. Sorry man, but that’s the way it is, once you get it, it’s irreversible It mainly affects people from Malaysia but you never know.

By the way, I wouldn’t believe whoever posted that last comment, he’s know to give bad advice. I really hope you didn’t think he was serious, worse yet... I hope you didn’t scream and immediately jump in the tub and douse your self with bleach, 409, Windex and the rest of your chemical supply because that would just be nuts. There is no such thing as his claimed 5.4% sickness crap, he doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Dimwhit.

By now you’ve figured out that was just a joke (you have....... haven’t you?) You can wash the sheets if it makes you feel comfortable. Technically you should, to be on the safe side. I never have and I’m not dead yet, but I’ll update you tomorrow. You can if you want, it’s not going to cost much to wash them just to be safe, I just never have. :-)

The only germs LGs carry is salmonella(not all carry it). Unless you’re licking or eating your sheets, I don’t think it’s necessary. That’s what I think logically, anyways, haha. I’m quite the hypochondriac, so I always wash my hands after touching my LG.s.

Haha, Pippin’s such a germaphobe, always washing his hands ater touching things. I don’t really wash anything(unless I’m going to eat off of it) after my LGs have walked on it, and I’ve handled my LGs at the same time as eating, so I wouldn’t really worry about it.

All lizards and amphibians can carry salmonella. Which is absolutely deadly to children and considerably life-threatening to the elderly and sick.

Even for regular people, it’s seriously not something you want to play Russian Roulette with. Imagine waking up one day with stomach cramps so bad that you can’t move out of a fetal position, you’re repeatedly vomiting with heavy diarrhea until blood starts to come out, you get extremely dehydrated, and unless you bring up to the doctor that you think you have salmonella, most of the time they will misdiagnose you for something smaller because - in early stages - it is hard to pick up in fecal samples. A percentage of the human population also suffer a syndrome that, by having salmonella, they will have irreversible pain and sometimes organ damage for the rest of their life and be forced to take medication for it. There is absolutely no way to find out if you have this syndrome beforehand; it’s one of those cruel, "Surprise!" things... Kind of like getting your tooth pulled to find out that you have cancer in your jaw.

Leopard geckos do not bathe. They walk in their feces and the bacteria it leaves behind. They eat insects that can carry a host of other problems - which is why leos should get a fecal test once to twice a year. Now this same leo is walking on your hands, the keyboard, the bed, the kitchen table, etc, and spreading those germs around. If you don’t wash these areas or your hands and you eat something, put your hand to your mouth or nose, come into contact with someone else (ie, shake their hand), you are transferring that bacteria around.

So yes, I wash my hands after every interaction with the lizard as well as when I reach into tanks. I use antibacterial soap. I also make a habit to use disinfectant spray on things such as door nobs or other items I come into contact with after cleaning tanks. I advise guests that come into contact with the reptiles to do the same. If you feel like you should wash your covers, then by all means do so. It is the responsible thing to do.

Then you didn’t catch salmonella. You caught a flu or something. Or regular food poisoning, perhaps.
