 Vet carrying

Hey,

I feel like about the worst parent in the world right now. Levi has to go to the Vets for parasites. He has bloody stool and diarreha. I was wondering if you could tell me the best way to transport him? I have two small containers, a 5 gallon fish tank, and a little small 1 gallon tank. The trip to the Vets is going to be one hour there and one hour back so I want to make sure he’s most comfortable. He had his check up before we took him home when we bought him, so we had just used the container they put him in to transport him. He’s not a year old so he hasn’t gone back for his yearly check up.

Also, his appointment is tommorrow and I found his stool last night. He’s still active and he hasn’t lost much weight, but he also didn’t eat last night so hopefully I caught it in time. What is the best method to use to either get him to eat, or keep him from getting dehydrated?

Thanks everyone for your help, and I wish I could have gotten on here and gave a better report than Levi’s sick. :(

Keep in a bare-bones condition. Don’t put anything in the box you intend to take him in outside of maybe paper towels.

I have a critter keeper that I transport my small geckos in, and a small, flat Rubbermaid container for larger reptiles; with holes for breathing, of course.

If it’s especially cold outside, I line a larger cat carrier (or any cardboard box with handles, including those for storage) with towels, put a heat pack in the towels off to one side, and put the smaller gecko box inside it. That helps insulate the geckobox. However, don’t have the heat pad directly touching the gecko box.

The box is either under my feet or in the back seat. The added towels and larger box also help the gecko feel secure. Putting the gecko in a small container will also help it feel secure.

Update:

I took him to the vet and the doctors say he’s one of the healthiest looking leopard geckos he’s ever seen. So he gave us some antibiotics for a per-caution and said it could have been a bladder infection.

Anyone ever dealt with a bladder infection?

He’s also been sleeping mainly, and not eating or using the bathroom. Not sure what to do there, he’s staying consistently the same weight though. Do they go through hibernation periods like Bearded Dragons? I know it’s been getting cold outside.?
