depends on what you are looking for.

Could range from $50-$700.

It will be harder to find a crestie (or any herp for that matter) in Canada than the US.

Hey (guys and gals), just joined the reptile zone. I have two crested that I got from the reptile expo here in Westchester County. I believe this is the best place (expo) to buy your crested (that’s if they have them in Canada). The price is also very reasonable. (Paid 40.00 for my first one, and 35.00 for my second one (got both from the same dealer within 2 months of each other. They are captive bred, and both are doing just lovely.

Lol, Roachey56,
Trust me, Reptiles are not hard to find in Canada. Don’t think that because it’s not where you live it’s not as convenient. Reptiles are very accessible here in Canada. As long as you know where you’re looking. I’m sure it’s not much harder to find a reptile in Canada than the U.S. But that is NOT my question. My question was how much would it cost. I appreciate that part of your answer at leasdt. Can you please explain why they range from $50 - $700? And why they range from such low price to such high prices?
And thanks to the other people who answered my question too.

Whoa. Settle down guys. Roachey56 was just stating his opinion and is probably speaking from his experience or the experience of others he knows. I’m sure he was just trying to be helpful.

Anyway, the range is so large depending on the color and sometime the quality of the geckos. Some colors are more rare or in more demand and therefore cost more. I got two gecko from a petshop for $60 each, and neither of them lived past 2 months. I purchased four geckos from a reliable breeder for $100 each and they are all doing great, growing, eating well, and in overall better health than my petshop ones.

I found mine by reading different forums and seeing who people suggest. I recommend two:
Dragon’s Den (This is where I got mine) - www.dragonsdenherp.com
and
AC Reptiles - http://www.acreptiles.com

btw, I think that it’s better to pay a little more and get one from a breeder that is definitely healthly than risk it with one that might not be.

Well - of the 8 that we have (9 if I can find the one that went missing) the average cost was around $80 us. We bought most of them from Robbie Hamper, a well known breeder, at various times and various herp shows. It makes a difference. The one we rescued from a pet store was beautiful, but he’s not eating and it’s a 50/50 if we can save him. All the ones we get from Robbie are easy to handle and healthy.

She does price her females higher (around 125-150) and all hers are priced based on pattern - fire and fancy dalmations are higher than the plainer type.

She also wrote a book on Crested Geckos, and she’s always very informative to talk to.

You asked: of course, Are cresties ever agressive? or are they generally calmer.

They’re supposed to be calm, most of them are. We have a couple of aggressive ones that cannot be trusted with the others, then we have 3 living together (males) doing fine... Watch them closely with each other, but with people they tend to be calm unless you startle them or just really tick them off. I’ve been bitten a few times, but it’s nothing major - usually no skin break and it’s more a nip to say "Hey, knock it off". I have one of the aggressive ones on my shoulder at the moment, and he’s "chortling" in my ear...
