Having viv problems i’m using a 10 gal and built a topper made of screen. total height of i think 26inches high. i put in ’bout 3 in gravel for drainage, 2 sheets of screen on top of that then added a mix of cocofiber and trop. moss as the "dirt". so far the 2 sheets of screen r working. i then added a log hide(on its side) as a planter. a driftwood log works as a wall for a terrace level that i have trop plants in. i have a dying pothos, a croacking palm, a happy i dont know, a white rabbits foot fern that i’m not sure of, and of course the plant that my son gave me last year which has never looked better, the pillow moss is still kicking, the brom has seen better days. the humidity has stayed in the 60-80 range and the temp is low to mid 70’s. i put the whole contraption by the window to get natural light on the guys that like light but i don’t know if they r getting enough. what did i do wrong? how can i bring the pothos back and why does the palm hate me? oh i am watering the broms "cup". HELP!!!!

Having viv problems other than the window what lighting are they reciving? Are they planted acourding to their light requirements? Also, are they all plants sutible for that environment? How long have you had these plants in there? I bealive that UVB light cant get through glass, so you usually need one from above, going through screen. Im not totally sure on the UVB thing, but answering all those questions will help us out.

Having viv problems cooking the plants! NNNOOOOO! i spent to much money for them to die. the white rabbits foot fern is ssooo cool u’d have 2 see it. all the plants were selected for their tropical high humidity needs.....except the palm and the mystery plant my son gave me. i think part of the problem is 2 much watering. the kids r watering all the plants when they get home from school and i water before i go to work(found this out the other day). the viv doesn’t recieve any other light other than window. the temps in the tank arn’t high by any means. i keep the house cool @ 72/73. but then again the magnifying glass thought. i bought plants at black jungle and they came in perfect. well back to the drawing board thanks 4 thoughts.

Having viv problems Move them away from the window and put a UV 2.0 bulb on the tank its a good amount of light for the plants and is fine for your cresties. You can put them on a timer (get the timer at home depot or the like for about 6$) and you need to set it for at least 6 hours on for the plants. The cresties can take at most 10 hours on during the winter and 12 during the summer. Make sure you are doing the lights on cycle for the day time and not at night.
