 New crestie

So we bought a 5-6 month old crestie about one week ago and put it in a 30 gallon tank with three trees, a hammock a ceramic hide and a small log hide. The temp has been between 73 and 82. We have been keeping the humidity to 60-80%( which isn’t too hard in Summer in Chicago area) and I have been mixing up CGD every night, even tried putting in a couple crickets the other day. We left her alone the first three days to get used to her new home. My son is 12 and very responsible. She seems to take to him better than me since she bit me on two occasions trying to get her out of the cage. She has not been eating since I find no poop. Two days ago, when my son had her out she jumped from his hand to his lap and her tail fell off. We were very upset. So I added a little baby food to her food in hopes she will like it better. I put a towel on one edge of the tank so she can completely hide for a week. She will not be handled for however long you all think she needs to be left alone. The pet store she came from said they’d give us our money back if we didn’t want her anymore, but my son loves her and we would never do that. Any advice on taming this beast? I am glad her bite doesn’t hurt-I just feel bad that she doesn’t feel safe here.

your temps and humidity sound fine. you may want to put her in a smaller cage with a solid substrate and sterile hides untill her tail heals. that was it doesnt get infected. as for taming i cant help you there because my juvi crestie is the same way. also if you put her in a smaller sterile container you will be able to see the droppings easier and then you will know for sure whether she is eating or not. some times it is hard to find the droppings in a big planted cage. it is easier to tell if they are eating by watching for droppings than it is to see missing food.

I could block off half or a third of the cage, would that be better? Also I have her on paper towel so I really can see all the or lack of droppings and I have checked the trees. What do you mean "sterile hides" Please give me an example. Thanks.

for sterile hides stuff like paper towel tubes, plastic containers with a "door" cut in them. basically anything that he can hide in and is disposable.

Okay, I’ll put some sterile hides in. Do you think I need to block off part of the cage? Or divide the food into two dishes?
