 Basic’s..

I have been thinking of getting a crestie and I have most of the things I think I need.
Could you guys just tell me if I’m missing anything?
Right now I have
My tank- 19 inches tall 20 inches wide...
Repti-bark- for the bottom subsrate ( is this okay to use? )
I am going to be buying some fake plants and the bendy vines they like soon.
And I will get CGD ( I saw it at our local pet store a few days ago )
How do you feed the CGD anyway?
Oh and a thermomitor & hydrometre

Is all of this okay?

sounds good so far. i wouldnt use repti bark tho. get bed-a-beast or a product like it (its a coconut fiber brick that you soak in a gallon of hot water for 20 min and it makes really nice bedding, there are many different brands).

you will need a spray bottle of some kind.

for the CGD you can buy it at a pet store or online. here is a link for the website that makes the stuff
www.superfoods.repashy(take this part out).com/foods_MRP_Crested.htm
if you follow the link at the bottom of the page you can find online Retailers.

that page also gives instructions on how to feed it. experiment tho, see how your geckos like it. i feed my geckos every other night, i stir the food the second night and put it back in the cage. they seem to eat more the second night when it has become thicker.

Yeah sorry I ment bead-a-beast. I have a container of it from my old anoles used to use it for them. I have a spray bottle. I will take a look at that link too thanks guido. I am going to buy the CGD from the local pet store, but I read this other page that said 1 teaspoon of the powder and 2 teaspoon’s of water and mix it together.. is that correct?
I have emailed the breeder I got my leopard geckos from and he has a bunch of different morphs ranging from $80-$100 I told him I am interested in a red flame, dalmation or pinstripe.. ( I am only getting 1 )

Anyways.. thanks for the reply.

if it is the same bed-a-beast that you used for your anoles i would throw that away and buy a new brick. its only 5$ for a brick and that will save you the trouble of trying to sterilize it. if your anoles had any sickness it could pass to your gecko in the old dirt.

1 tsp of CGD and 2 tsp of water would be right. but that will make alot of food. i use 1/8th tsp of CGD and 1/4 tsp of water for each of my geckos. if its an adult that eats a lot i will double that and give him 1/4 tsp of CGD and 1/2 tsp of water mixed in.

No..I would do that. I bought a whole brick for my anoles and they didnt use it all I still have some that was never used in their tank.
As for the CGD.. I will make it in less portio for him/her.

Thanks for your help guido. =)

anything that works really. i use water bottle caps sometimes. a flat peice of hard plastic works if the food is thick enough. right now i have 1 oz disposable plastic cups for a gecko feeding ledge that i use.

i wouldnt use the bark... or even the eco earth/coco fiber if you are getting a baby. id go with papertowel if you are getting a baby.. when they get older you can switch to the eco earth if you want. babies if fed crickets by whoever you get them from can think they see a cricket and go after it even if theres nothing there and if your using ecoearth thats not a good thing if they get a mouth full of it.

but yup you will need a spray bottle of somesort.. theres nice little pressurized ones you can get at garden centers that work really well.. and then your hand doesnt get tired.

i have never heard that thing about the crickets. i put my gecko on eco earth when i got her and she was 5 1/2 grams. the breeder told me it would be fine. i also feed the crickets in a jar thats buried on an angle in the dirt so that they dont get dirt when they dive for crickets. but i have never heard of them diving for a cricket that isnt there. maybe it happens and i just havent heard of it.

For dishes I just use the lids of the 2 oz solo brand cups. The lids are much cheaper than the cups and I waste less food w/ them. I premix the CGD for the week and keep it in the frig, in the yellow and red squeeze containers you see at hot dog stands for mustard and ketchup. You can normally find these at dollar stores.

Squee- I am not using the bark I ment to say the bead-a-beast I am using. I don’t know what age of crestie I am getting so if it is a baby I will take your advice and use paper towels.

guido- Yeah bottle caps stuff like that okay that will work thanks.

S.- I will look for 1 of those bottles. And I think I am just going to use what guido suggested and use bottle caps or like tuperwair container lids.

thanks for the helps guys =).

lol yeah i didnt see that...

and its probably just my babies that would go after crickets that werent there... damn cat teching them to see imaginary prey items... and yeah my cat does see imaginary mice that shes spazzes out over and chases around the house... shes a retard...

anyways i use to use the tupperware lids for the diet but then i got 3/4oz paper souffle cups that i use since i can throw them away and theyre fairly cheap
