 OT - Gargoyle Comming Soon

I know this forum is for CG but the Gargoyle one is dead pretty much!

I have a 20 long that im going to turn on its sides and i was wondering what to decorate it with?

I know im supposed to fead it the CGD and Try Crix and see if it likes it. I Know about the tank size. I know They dont need heat but try and maintain it at 75 Degrees and No Hotter then 80. 70% Humidity i believe?

Is there anything else i should know?

Thanks,
Ron

crested geckos and gargoyle geckos do not have the same requirement. the requirements that you listed look like they are for crested geckos. here is a care sheet for gargs.

http://www.repticzone.com/caresheets/619.html

they do need some heat. and they do not need as super high humidity. please do more research before you jump in to getting a gecko. also be aware that the gecko your about to buy could live 15+ years if taken care of properly.

Sorry Guido but thats a crap care sheet. Don’t use it, it will just make you more confused. Gargoyles are almost the same exact care as cresteds but will sometimes want to use a basking spot of 85f (no higher). Its best you buy the "Rhac. Bible" and go from there w/ any of the different Rhacs.

Yes..they are similar but not the same...The tank doesn’t need to be turned a 20 long will work...gargs don’t climb as much and cant really stick to the glass as well as cresteds. I recommend a basking spot around 80 not to much more then 80-82. I feed mine mostly CGD...mine don’t go after crickets like the cresteds do when i feed them to them. But will accept them sometimes. I know most people say there the same but i have found them to be quite different such as how they sleep during the day. All mine like to sleep on the floor under leaves and such most of my cresteds like to sleep in the vines and walls. About the humidity i find that gargs don’t need as high of a humidity and i dont mist them as heavy at night and in the morning as i do with the cresteds. I guess its just a personal opinion but that’s how i see things...Hope everything goes well post pics when you get your garg...Good luck!

Well 1st of all dont tell me to do more research. As you can tell for being 19 im very knowledgeable when it comes to lizards.

2nd. They are almost the same. and 80 degress is max!!!! anything above it will be a hazard.

And u said they dont stick on to glass that good and dont need a 20 tall... LOL cmon man.. Read b4 u critisize. I already stated im putting a HIDE on the bottom and leaves for him/her to go from level to level....

I know i may seem hostlle but cmon.....i do my research.

Ok...i was just giving my opinions on keeping my gargoyles and how i do it and it has worked for me and i have been told this from experienced breeders. My opinion doesn’t matter i know i just thought i would give it. My bad if you took it the wrong way.

thats good to know S. i was mostly posting that for the temp thing it says. someone told me that they needed a basking spot and a higher temp than cresties. thats why i decided not to get one, because i use rubbermade bins and i dont feel safe putting a heat lamp on top of the plastic.

thanks for letting me know that i had the wrong info. sorry to the thread starter for that.

I don’t know who was who here but I’m going to give some input. I breed gargoyles and have all but 2 of the Rhac sp.

~A basking spot of 85f is fine and the best temp for basking. Gargoyles go higher in the canopy in the wild so they get a little warmer than cresteds there for they like it a little warmer for basking.

~A 20 long laying normal is NOT good for any Rhac over 20grams. They need height, yes, they may not be able to climb GLASS better than cresteds but they climb trees higher and better than them in the wild. There for only about a foot of height is not good for them. The more height the better.

If you have any questions you would like me to help with feel free to contact me w/ pm or on my web page Lunargecko.net.

Congrats On getting a Gargoyle. That was my first Lizard/Gecko.

Just Figured I’d throw in how I take care of Mine.
I don’t let the Temps Get Higher then 80f-83f, I try to keep it between, 75f-80f.
I had to play around With the humidity for a while when I first got him, In which I found Keeping it about 60-65% during the day and Raising it to 75-80% at night worked best.
I feed Crested Gecko Diet, Mixed with water and Occasionally a treat of Fresh Fruit.
As For the tank, My Gargoyle Is deformed by something that happened previous to when I got him (Curved Spine) and So he’s not very big, Only 7-8 grams. So I keep Him in a 15 gallon turned on it’s side. I have lots of fake plants that he climbs on. My Gecko Can’t stick to the glass very well, but he uses every bit of height.
I’ll Throw in a Picture of My Gargoyle and The cage I have him in.
Have Fun with your Gargoyle, and Be sure to post picture’s when you get him!

Sorry The Picture of the cage isn’t very good....

The place I got mine from charges 80-120 dollars for them. However I only paid 60 dollars for mine because of his spine.

Oh, and Thanks!

$80 for a normal and up to $600 for a tomato red. My male (Brooklyn) was about 300, so the price is all over the place depending on what you want.

Its to bad that s/he is unbredable s/he has some nice markings. That is a reticulated gargoyle and about what you could consider the "normal" but any "normal" with color be it orange yellow red or whatever is going to cost more. Below is one of my striped babies. See the difference in the way the patterns are? If you were to get one of these with non of the color (not like the one pictured) it would start out at about 120 or so.

I have offers for him coming in at 200 and he is not even old enough to sell yet.
