 Garter snake feeding?

Hi guys. I’ve had a garter snake for about a year. I caught it on a hill near my house, and it seems to be thriving. Lately, I have been worrying quite a bit about his diet... I feed him small frogs that I catch locally. (The land is certified organic) and I fed him feeder fish during the winter when the frogs were hibernating. I have been hearing lately that both frogs and feeder fish generally harbor a lot of bacteria/parasites. I want to switch him to f/t pinkies, but how can I transfer him easily from live to f/t? Also, how many pinkies/how often should I feed him?

Thank you!

Saphira
