Help the injured snake we saved

i found a western terrestrial garter snake in my garage behind some peices of plywood and were putting some drywall in and he probably would have been crushed if it werent for my dad,who spotted.he is alittle injured on his bottom scales and were going to house him.were going to take him to the vet, rub triple antibiotic ointment and iodine and hope for the best.

any tips on care would be great.
p.s. we are aware that we are supposed to release it into the wild but temperatures are too extreme right now

I can help with it’s basic needs. But really, if it was living outside, the temps are probably fine for it. It can survive.

Ok um... I think you’d do better feeding her earthworms--just catch them outside, as long as there are so pesticides on the ground. Just because she’s not eating the fish doesn’t mean they’re too small... I wouldn’t expect her to eat anything yet, she’s probably very stressed out. It’s best to leave her alone for a couple more days, at least, ESPECIALLY if she’s pregnant.

Hm, yeah, you could probably get them at a pet store... but I’m not sure if they sell earthworms... meal & wax worms they probably sell but earthworms... I’m not sure. You should probably call them and ask them.

But you could probably find some, as long as the snow isn’t THAT deep. Turn over some logs, sticks, pieces of bark, etc. Of course you’d have to be in the country to do that... :)

That doesn’t convince me. Your parents are ok with you having a 20 foot snake? How are you supposed to pay for all the food?
