Finding garter snakes in the summer.

I’m looking for a garter snake and can’t find them anywhere! Would they hid under rocks in the middle of the day?

First off, what is the temperature outside when you look. Garter’s will only come out if it’s warm, not hot. On a hot summer day, they tend to come out in the evening, when the heat has eased off.

Garter’s live under big loges, in brush piles, under rocks (like you said).

Also, I just read your profile. And "Severus Snape" is a awesome name for a snake! I know where it came from.... That’s really creative. ;)

Look under boards and logs and keep an eye out especially if its like 70 degrees thats when theyll move and i dont know if this is a cowincedince but all the garters iv caught under boards have been on overcast days or right after it stormed or rained what i do to catch them is to take some boards (or even cardboard) and stick it in the brushiest or woodiest area of your yard check it every day good luck i know how you feel

(my eastern garter)

THE BEST PLASE TO LOOK IS NEAR A LAKE OR RIVER
