Hard?  are garter snakes hard to keep? what size and kind of tank do i need? like half and half, or just large water bowl?

Hard?  Garters are very easy to keep. You’d be best off with a 20 gallon long tank with a secure lid. You don’t want to tank to be half and half, a large water bowl will do. You’ll want a hot side of around 85 degrees and a cool side of 75 degrees. You need a hide on each side. You’ll also probably want to put some branches in the tank because garters like to climb and bask in them.

Hard?  I use reptile carpet for substrate. You can use bark as long as it isn’t pine or cedar. I’d start with a 10 gallon for a baby, just make sure you have a lot of places for it to hide. The 10 gallon should do until it’s a year or two old.
