 Just bought a gartar...need help.

Hey I just bought a gartar and I did research and all that, but (s)he won’t eat. I’ve tried F/T pinkies and earthworms and it doesn’t seem interested in either. Any advice?

Start by describing the cage setup, complete with temperatures and lighting. The problem could be environmental. Even if the setup is great, sometimes they need a week to settle in and start feeling like a snake again before they get hungry. You could also try guppies; some of them prefer fish to mice, although f/t mice are the healthiest way to go whenever possible.

Okay well, as for cage setup, (s)he has a very large water dish, aspen bedding as a substrate, one hide on the warm end and cool end, and a little fake plant. The warm end of the tank is about 83 F, while the cool end is about 77 F. I was not using a light until today because I found out I needed one. I have a 7% UVB florescent light that I leave on for about 11 hours a day.

Isn’t aspen toxic? Your temps could go up since mine are a little higher than yours and how big is the cage? How big is the snake?

Aspen is fine. Cedar and pine are toxic.

I don’t think the problem is the setup. Might just need to settle in.
What time of day are you feeding? They’re diurnal, so privacy and light is the combination you want, as opposed to a lot of others that want privacy and dark.
Is the animal wild or CB?

You need to feed her fish to calm the butterflies, then you can move on to other things with the scent of fish, then eventually no scent. Worms suck!
