Actually that looks like my wandering garter snake I have one. One way you can tell is that they will eat almost anything. But look up wandering garter snake on yahoo or whereever you search and you will see the resemblance

So do I.
Wanderings have a VERY distinct checkered pattern.
Very small checkers spaced out
and wanderings have 8 upper labials and light stripe or 21 scale rows at midbody (could be spotted or stripe)

Is he about to shed? Pretty tho.... I miss my garter... I’m about to order another one for my son.... they are really good snakes for younger kids... it looks like an eastern but yeah it also looks like th eother one too..... very big and pretty tho!!!! How is his "attitude"? I was jsut wondering since you found him...
