Well there isn’t such thing as a blue striped garter. They’re probably talking about a Puget garter. THe care would be similar though.

Could you post a picture of one? Or the scientific name of it? Common names can be confusing.

Ok, I looked it up. They’re the ones almost identical to Florida blue garters (thamnophis sirtalis sirtalis). The blue stripes are thamnophis sirtalis similis. Sorry.

 Blue striped garters

wow, hold up there!!!!!lol
everything is incorrect in your last post.
1. T. sirtalis sirtalis is the eastern garter snake.
2. T. sirtalis similis is the bluestripe GARTER which lives in florida (as well as eastern)
3. T. sauritus nitae is the bluestripe RIBBON
4. Both bluestripe garters and bluestripe ribboms are not any more similar to eachother than any other type of garter and ribbon

How is everything incorrect? Florida Blues are Eastern garters. I said nothing about ribbons. And I said that the blue stripes are similis? How is that incorrect?

1. I know that. A Florida blue is an Eastern garter.
2. That’s exactly what I said.
3. Why are you talking about ribbons?
4. Blue stripe garters and Florida blue garters look similar and are easily confused (that’s what I got wrong)

You have a Gulf Coast Ribbon? I have one too and I’m almost certain it’s wild caught so it hasn’t been easy. It’s been sick once and reluctant towards eating for awhile (maybe you’ve seen). What’s your cage look like? Mine’s a 30 gallon mostly because he/she rubs it’s nose off in anything smaller. She has a big water bowl, a UTH, some logs and a coconut, annd 2 plants. Not all of that fits in there but I switch it around. I have to feed Danny (I call it that) pinkies only as it doesn’t eat worms, I don’t have frogs, and fish have become uninteresting.

Well my female was wild caught, but she has adjusted nicely. I have mine in a 20 gallon long, probably something similar to your setup. What are your temps? How long has it been not eating? My male ribbon is sometimes picky for a month or two, but he usually gets over it. Pinkies are good though, and try to avoid frogs if you can as they are loaded with parasites.

I can’t get frogs anyway...it’s been about a month to a month in a half...I can’t remember. My enclosure is a R zilla 30 gallon with a removable top and reptibark. Temps are around 70 and much warmer in his logs.

Well I don’t really know what to tell you then. Maybe bump the temperature up some more, and keep trying live minnows to get it’s attention.

No he’s eating as far as I know, but he is only eating pinkies...for now...sorry for any confusion.
