? RE: Thiaminase
I was perusing the care sheets, educating myself about snakes and reptiles. I own a pet store in VA and I try to learn as much as I can about what I sell here. I read on one care sheet that ribbon snakes shouldn’t eat goldfish due to thiaminase. Then, I read another caresheet that recommended a vitamin supplement if feeding goldfish. Which one should I go with? The reason I ask is that I have sold several ribbon snakes, and one customer is now feeding goldfish. Also, I have one here in the store that will only eat goldfish. I have tried feeding rosies, but he only kills them and does not eat them. I will try guppies to see if he will take those, but I would guess that because they are also small, like the rosies, he will do the same. If I am able to continue feeding goldfish, how would I get the vitamin powder to stick to the fish, would I have to feed him without a waterdish? (I like to watch him fish, so I provide a large bowl for water, and place the fish in it.) Any advice would be appreciated, I am always trying to better educate myself. When I opened my store, I knew nothing about snakes. Now, I have customers who seem to think I am a snake expert. I’m far from that, though. Thanks, Richard |
