 Can’t decide!

I have to make a choice between keeping my three american toads that I have had since the beginning of summer or keeping a leopard frog that my cat brought in. I read tons of information on leopard frogs overnight and this morning while keeping the frog in a temporary confinement. I am raising 45 american toad tadpoles that I rescued from my pool before pumping out all the water, and I have tons of toads hopping around my house, so my decision should be simple since leopards are so rare in my area. But I fell in love with one of my toads. I don’t know what to do. Advice?

Well, if I were in your position, I would keep the american that you fellin love with and the leo together, if they wont hurt eachother of course. Is there a reason you have to choose?

I have another tank, but my house is only big enough for one more. I could keep the american toads outside in my 20 gal because I have perfect temperatures outside during the summer, but I would have to put them somewhere else during the winter.

CAN I put the toad and frog together? I guess I could right now, but don’t leopard frogs get big?

The toad will poison the water if they’r confined together. I’d say if the toads are settled in, let the frog go. Leopard frogs aren’t going to get any more common in the area if they keep getting removed from the gene pool.

I set up my tank for the leopard frog and let the toads go in some water in my backyard. It was very hard to do, but they’ll probably be happier if they are free.

My cat just brought in another frog- same species. He’s larger, but not too large and has a patch of fading green on his back. I inspected him and noticed that he has a boo boo right above where his leg starts. It is only a small puncture wound. My cat tries to be very careful when bringing me "presents" and hardly ever harms things. Will he be able to survive it? I am keeping him in the same enclosure as the other frog. Hopefully he will be able to heal.

Let the one that’s not injured go if you want the injured one to heal. Terriorial stress can be a factor if tey can’t each move around and mae as big an empty space aroind themselves as they’d lke to when they want to be alone. Plus, with two in the same cages, bacteria and all that are doubled. The one with the wound needs to be as clean and as stress-free as possible.

Thanks. I’ll probably do that then. It makes the most sense.
