 Are the wild caught

Most of them are captive bred. Usually if you see an adult of an exotic species it’s probably wild though. You’d really have to ask the associate if they know, that’s the only way to be sure.

The only captive bred stuff they have at those chain petshops are the popular animals like leopard geckos, bearded dragons and snakes. Anoles, and smaller lizards and frogs are mostly wild caught. If they tell you their cuban frog or whatever is captive bred, they’re lying...period.

I wouldn’t get frogs from them anyways. I’d go to a breeder or a privately owned petshop.

 Are the wild caught

They’re just caught as is and shipped to the stores. More popular pets like bearded dragons and leopard geckos are bred easily and are easily accessible. Snakes are the same. But with green anoles, since they’re so much of them in Florida, they just catch and ship them. The more "exotic" types of pets like cuban frogs and the lesser known pets are most likely wild caught.

I see nothing wrong with wild caught as long as you treat it for possible parasites and give it plenty of room, food, and necessities like heat/lighting. But unfortunetly, the green anole, for popular example, since there’s so many of them, they just kinda throw those around and not give too much care if they’re sick or dying. I think it’s sad. Chain stores are more likely to pay attention to a 40 dollar gecko than a 5.99 anole, you know what I mean?

That’s why I always buy reptiles and supplies from privately owned petshops. They’re usually people who care about the animals, far more knowledgable, and get their supplies from good breeders. I only go to petco or petsmart for cat food.
