 New Betta Fish Help

I got a Crowntail Betta fish last week on Monday. His name is Corona and his tank looks clean. How often are Betta Fish tanks supposed to get dirty?

If you invest in a small filter and change 20-30% of the water every week then you should never run into any dirty tank problems. Bigger tanks will also stay cleaner much longer.

Do you have a heater for him? Bettas are tropical fish and need temps of around 78-80ºF. Also, depending on your tank size, you’ll need to perform water changes, often. I’m guessing your tank is in the 1-2 gallon range? Anything smaller than 5 gallons requires 2 water changes per week, one 50% change and one 100% change.

Good luck with your fishy!

Buy a well-working filter.

I would not recommend doing a 50% or a 100% change, that could kill any good bacteria living, do a weekly 25% change, that would be all. ;)
