Large fish for a 55 gallon..?

Hello, a little while back I’ve given my goldfish to a new home with a pond, and now I’ve realized I kind of miss having a big fish tank. I’m interested in the more bigger and interesting tropical fish, I’m not interested in smaller fish (I already have a 15 gal community tank). What could I keep in a 55 gallon? Some of the things I’m interesting in are oscars, piranhas?, maybe some gourami, shark, eel-like maybe? Something that would grow big and would be happy in a 55 gal as an adult. Are there any that could live solo that would be good in a 55 gal? Any help is appreciated.

An oscar should just fine< but I would go with an male frontosa and maybe a female frontosa they are a lot cooler looking.

Are there any other types of oscars besides a tiger oscar?

And I’ve never heard of that fish before! I’ll have to look it up, the pictures I just seen a second ago were beautiful. I don’t even know if any of my local stores carry then, I’ll have to see.

Oh and I have one more comment, I would love to have an oscar, but every time I research tank sizes I’m getting different answers, and that makes me nervous to get one. Some say a 55 minimum, some say more, and I’ve heard of people keeping 3 in a 55 gallon with no problem, which I don’t know if I believe or not. I don’t know if I should really get one ><

a 55 should be fine for an oscar for a while depending on the fish you might have to get him a bigger one along the line at some point. If your going to have multiple fish in with the oscar i would recommend a bigger tank because oscars are very aggressive to other fish. You have to have plenty of room for the others to run from the oscar other wise he will kill and even eat them :O

Oh no this is just going to be a one fish tank for now. as much as I would love an Oscar I think I should wait. Maybe I should just get a Jack dempsey those are pretty.

There are albino tiger oscar, normal albino, vail tail, red, albino red, and dwarf oscars. Dempseys are cool and nice to look at, if you want something to look at and has lots of color go with an flower horn they are awesome I have one and can’t stop looking at it.

Electric blue jack dempsey they have impressive colors & there more peaceful then regular dempsey’s. plus you could add a pleco in there also with some small fishes to distract the dempsey a bit! Good luck with you choices!

There isn’t any rays small enough for a tank that size. and last one I seen in a pet shop was 250 bucks.. alot of money to play with a fish that would probably die from to small of tank
