How Long does the average discus fish live for?

10+ years with proper tank size and care. Minimum size tank would be 55 gallons.

They do best with Characins, Corydoras and slow moving South American fish and Dwarf Cichlids. The tank should be set up geared toward keeping Discus and they do best in groups of 5 to 8. That’s about all I know when it comes to these fish.

Yeah, I’ve never kept Discus, but I have looked into it. Obviously you’d want to keep other South American fish, so don’t throw them in with like Calvus or other Old World fish. You’d also want to stay away from Tiger Barbs, they like to nip. I also hear that Plecos sometimes latch on the side of the Discus. For the tank you’d want it higher than most regular tanks, if at all possible, although a standard 55 would work great. Some people just keep a species tank, however I’ve heard that Cardinal Tetras as well as most Danios are good. But whatever you choose, good luck they are a stunning fish.

they need a really high temp water which most fish do not like i reccomend keeping them to themsleves
