 Breeding California blue bellies!

I have a two California blue bellies. One is a male and one is a female. I was wondering how long it would take them to realize the different genders. I put in the male today and I wanted to know how long it would take. Thanks if you can help, and if you could tell me how long it would take before should lay eggs.

I also have a pair of blubellies. Mine are quite fond of each other, liking to be together almost constantly. I am hoping nature will take its course and reward me with some offspring.:)
Here is a great link about their breeding habits, ect.Link

 Breeding California blue bellies!

Hey Great, thanks for the link. My boys caught a second bluebelly last week and today ’he’ laid 10 eggs! Yikes! Very cool and we’re all amazed, but wondering if we need to do anything. The mom did a nice job of covering the eggs with a mound of sand (I’ll add soil to the tank), but then the other lizard dove straight into the mound. I removed him/her and left the new mom alone with the eggs. Was that necessary (not sure if he just liked the mound or was going for eggs) or can he stay? Also, do you know if we need to provide anything special during this time? And what about when the babies hatch? Will the adults be a danger to them? I do appreciate any help and/or links!

Quote:

: Mix vermiculite and pumice and place in a deli cup (pint). Put some water in the bottom but do not allow water to reach the eggs. Put eggs in the mixture but do not change their orientation. Keep at +/- 80ºF for at least one month. Check frequently to make sure there is water in the bottom of the cup.

from kingsnake.com
It is very important to not change the orientation of the eggs. Put them about two thirds of the way into the mixture. If you leave them with the mama she may eat them when they hatch! Allow for ventilation.

Quote:

Female lays eggs from April or May to June or July. Clutch size varies from 3-17 eggs; largest females produce largest clutches. Female may produce more than 1 clutch/yr in some areas (in Northwest, females are thought to lay single clutch). Eggs hatch in about 2 mo. Adults first breed in spring of second year.

After they hatch you can feed them little insects the size of the baby lizard’s head.
A source for an incubator, if you want to spend the money.
