 Temps starting to fluctuate!

Well Precious is getting ready. Her temp yesterday morning was 100.6 then this morning was 100.2. Checked her again tonight and back up to 101.6! Dogs can be so confusing! I’ll be going home either tomorrow or Friday for the week. My mom says she is getting huge so I’ll post pics of her when I get home. My first one did this though and within 48 hours had the pups so who knows...

Until the temp drops to 99.3 or below, there is no need to get excited. It is normal for a dogs temp to be between 99.8 and 102. I know it gets exciting to see the temp drop, but don’t freak until it gets down to at least 99.3

It should be 98.3 before they give birth, you just dhouldn’t get excited about a drop until the temp actually drops below normal.

pups are really starting to move and she hates being left alone. Won’t lay still for more than a few min and has started nesting, panting hard and drinking a ton. She also went after our little corgi when she came in, normally they play really well together but not today.

That’s exciting! That is what my dog started doing about 4 hours before she started having contractions!

Well she was doing great until my step-dad came home around 7. He walked in and went over to her and got her hyper...Her temp is going from 99.5-100. It will just be us tonight and tomorrow as he is leaving early in the morning and wont be back until evening and he has already been told to keep her calm when he comes in and not to make any loud noises or fast sounds.

The nesting and panting are signs of labor, she was having contractions. Your step-dad triggered the labor to stop. We did a bird rescue the night shadow went into labor and all the excitment stopped it. Two nights later she went back into labor and and was in hard labor from 7 pm-11am before having any puppies. I slept next to her all night because she has complications. But you are right about trying to keep her calm, getting her excited will keep her from having those puppies, thats the last thing you want because they are ready to come out now. 99.5-100 is an normal temperature for a dog. Just keep checking it every 6 hours to see if it has dropped below normal. Puppies don’t come until that temp has dropped to 98.3, when that happens it will be within a 24 hr period, until then her temperature is subject to change.

I would keep any other dogs away from her, they leave the pack in the wild to keep other dogs from stealing or killing her pups, so it’s only natural she become aggressive with another dog when it enters her "Den".

 Temps starting to fluctuate!

Got up this morning and she was 98.1 so the house is very quiet and all the dogs are away from her. We blocked off the whole living room and have her in the crate as this seems to be the only place other than the couch that she will sleep. Not eating at all today and only drinking a little. You can really tell the pups have dropped though and she has a major wiggle to her when she does walk. She is sleeping now so the house is extra quiet, she will need her rest when the pups come. Later today we are going to the store to get a bottle and milk just in case but I don’t think she will need it as her milk is coming strong and she is full of it but my last one was too. With 7 pups one or two always got left out so we just gave them a little boost. Anyways I’ll keep y’all updated on her. I have the camera, phone, towels, emergency kit, pen & paper and little "collars" to tell them apart all right next to the bed for the big event. Now it’s just a waiting game...

Since she resting it will probably be either tonight or early morning. It’s a waiting game that drives people crazy lol. Shadow can’t have the pups in a crate because she has complications where we have to stick our hands up there and get contractions started. That and she diggs and moves while she pushing, don’t want any injuries to the puppies. Our puppies are weaned and getting shots monday, it all went so fast. Goodluck.
