will sand irritate my snake’s scales? Please reply.

Yes; corn snakes are not used to being on sand, they have smooth, unkeeled scales, which helps them burrow under loose dirt and leaves. Sand grains are roouch and can irritate the snake’s eyes, nostrils, and get under the scales.

I’d avoid it. But if you use any loose substrate, please don’t feed your snake on it, because it could ingest it and get impacted. Sadly, I speak from experience.

In general, you shoud avoid sand of all types since it doesn’t absorb feces well and is hard to clean. The only exceptions are desert burrowing snakes, such as sand boas. If you use a loose substrate, you should feed your snake in a seperate container to avoid impaction. You should do this anyways so that it doesn’t associate your hand with food.
