 Rescue Snake

My mom brought home a snake that was in front of Mr. Jims Restuarant

We think it is a Corn.

Please help me identify him.

So... here is Mr. Jim

I will try to get a better belly shot later

I was wearing a glove just in case it would bite me....lol

Wow... I don’t think that it is a corn, but could it be a Black Rat snake or (remote possibility?) a Texas Rat snake? Either way, I think it looks very kewl!!! I’d be tempted to keep it to see how it changes as it grows.

Ya that was our second guess...we dont know too much about snakes. When we seen it had checks on its belly like a corn we werent sure. We thought only corn snakes had checks.

I’d have to say that’s a grey ratsnake, if your pics are showing the colors correct. If you have other snakes it’s a good idea to handle this snake last and have it in another room separate from the rest. It probably doesn’t have any diseases or parasites but better safe than sorry. Just to warn you though-they can be very cage territorial. Once in your hands though, they do pretty well.

We found this info on the web after reading your post. "Gray rat snakes are dark to light gray with darker gray or brown blotches. The juveniles of all subspecies resemble the gray rat. The belly is whitish in color near the head and becomes checkered or mottled toward the tail. "

That describes his belly perfectly. What is the difference between a rat snake and a corn snake? Read somewhere that that the only difference is in color is this true? He has some red in between his scales.
