A 50 gallon? How big is the snake?

Aspen is fine. A lot of people use it, and corns like to burrow in it. I’ve never used turf, so I can’t speak to that.

I don’t recommend using aspen unless you are feeding your snake in a different cage, for the risk of impaction. I used turf for the longest time, until switching to the lizard liner "carpets". There was no problem with the turf, I just decided to switch.

Dude, for a one foot corn, a fifty is huge. All snakes need to feel secure in their enclosures. A ten or twenty gallon would be FINE for a corn snake that size, and forty is about the largest most people use for adults (four feet plus). An enclosure that is too big will stress the snake out.
