 Is this normal

my snake maxi who is about 9 months old thinks he’s a rattle snake. When i went to get him out i heard a fast tapping in his viv so i looked were it was coming from and his tail was rattling. Is this usual for corn snakes.

Yes it’s normal. Hopefully he mellows out though and doesn’t do it all the time. In the wild they will rattle their tail and against leaves it does sound like a rattlesnake to scare predators away.

yeah this is completely normal. its kinda a defense mechanism, so if your snake is doing it he may feel threatened by something...

definately normal, and also means ur snake is pretty healthy if he knows how to react to danger well. tail "rattling" is a defense mechanism that most colubreds do when they feel threatened. Kingsnakes do this a lot as one of the things on their diet are rattlers, which may explain how they have came across the trait. not sure myself except that it’s a bluff so that a predator will think it’s a rattler and leave it alone.

Yeah. This is yet another area that IMHO makes Corns better pets than Kings (although Kings are GREAT). Every baby king I’ve ever had has defecated on me, sometimes flicking them it all over the place as well. Never had a Corn snake do that. LOL.

Sometimes, my bigger corns will STILL rattle... but not much.

My corn has never "rattled" in the entire time I’ve had him/her.. I guess I’m not a threat... She’ll run in a pinch if I scare her though...
