Tip of tail shedding problems.. what to do?

I have noticed on my new snake that on the very end of the tail it looks like there is still some shed skin left on it. Any advice as to how to remove it without hurting the snake?

I do have another snow corn that I had just got and it has the same problem. I was told it had just shed but then he shed again this morning so now has 2 layers of skin on there. I as gently as possible peeled off the rest of that one and now it is all red and black on the very end. Still looks like there is an old layer still on. I don’t want to hurt either of them but that has to be constricting for it to still be on there.

Try this:

Quote:

The Pillow Case Method...
take a large Pillow Case (one big enough that your snake can move around in, and soak it in warm water. Place your BP inside of it. Tie a loose knot at the top, just enough to keep your snake from climbing out. While he’s inside the Pillow Case you can hold your hands underneath for support and warmth. Shift the snake around a bit so as to "force" him to move around. This is what we did the one time my wife’s BP had a retained eye cap. After about 5 minutes, I took her out of the Pillow Case (the ball python, not my wife...lol) and the eye cap was gone.
But in any Case, if the remaining shed doesn’t come off, it will more than likely between now and its next shed, or with its next shed.

Just make sure it does not remain on the tail, or in a circular around the snake.
Stuck shed "around" the body could cause lack of circulation, or on a tail end could cause lack of circulation, and deaden the tissue of the tail.

Never peel a shed yourself!

this is why.

To me, it’s like peeling Your skin off of a blister... makes it red and raw.

Watch their tails, they could Deaden and fall off.

Use the pillow case method.
You can try soaking the tail in warm water for a few minutes, then put the snakes in the pillow case.

Is there any way to prevent this from the beginning. I am misting them at least once a day and soaking them in lukewarm water about every other day. The rest of the shed was perfect except the tip of the tail. I have yet to see my rescue snake shed, but there seems to still be a little left on his tail also. I just don’t see how wrapping them in a pillow case and moving them around is going to get that kind of skin off. I can see that working for the eye cap mentioned, but not on the tail.

What should I do at this point and how can I prevent it in the future??

It’s like using a wash cloth, but They are doing the "scrubbing" themselves, buy moving around in there.

You may want to contact your Vet.
If you don’t have one, there is a link at the top of the forum,
or in the Members Area, to help you locate one.
Be Sure it is a Reptile Vet, one that treats Snakes.
There are some reptile vets that will see reptiles, but not snakes.
If the vet you speak to/go to tells you t peel it off yourself, find another vet.
