Conforming of the States

Exotic animals and the typical furry friends that America desires, are on the verge of being banned, and outlawed. As years go by, more and more incidents happen with common and exotic animals. Everything from dogs biting young children, all the way to lions and other exotic animals inflicting pain to causing death. Every year more accidents happen with humans and animals. Causing cities and the government to implement laws and regulations. Many books and magazine articles deal with this problem. Improper care and animals getting in the wrong hands cause these incident. Incidents that could be prevented. No one cares about the law, there are ways around not being able to get your hands a animal that is illegal. Many books are being wrote about this issue. Controlling laws and regulations on common pets and exotic animal are always a threat to the human interest of what we can own and what not. Changing laws effect from number of pets to what breed and species may be owned.
The average animal has had bans put on them since the early years when cats and dog populations increased dramatically. With the numbers incline gradually many issues began to arouse. Such as cats being left outside and destroying property. To dogs biting other humans and attacking kids. Along with these animal populations increasing smells and infections, “reason for such control is to control biting, odors, and unsanitary conditions and practice. The laws are made to curb dog and cat related problems. Lower the populations of animals then less chance of something happening and effecting others (Losing to limit laws)”. Many of these problems could have been avoid, by simple steps. Such as spaying and neutering and maintaining a healthy home for animals and humans. Not only were regular being punished, but same with exotic animals also such as reptiles, big cats, bears, etc. IN the early 60’s baby turtles were for sale in local pet shops. Being so small children, put them in there mouths. Salmonellae broke out due to this: “less than a quarter million patients were diagnosed with the disease called Salmonellae due to baby turtles with shells smaller than 4 inches, still in 1973 pet turtles accounted for the 14 percent of salmonella caused illnesses in the United States(Lewis, Carol)”. Owning exotic animals is something that is being a very popular thing: “The humane society of the United States estimates that 15 thousand monkeys and as many as 15 thousand big cats- 5-7 thousand of which are tigers are being kept as pets in the United states(Sutton, Peggy).”
Even with all of these laws being implemented on the animals that we own. Exotic animals are becoming a huge hit in the world today. Mainly the reptile business is getting bigger and bigger. More and more people are realizing that they are easier to take care of “Approximatively 3 percent of American households own an estimated 7.3 million reptiles, according to pet industry joint advisory council. Because the most popular species will not breed if closely confined, most reptiles are captured in the wild or hatched at reptile ranches and imported. The number of reptiles imported into the united states has increased dramatically from 27,806 in 1986 to 798,408 in 1993, as reported by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services, and the majority are iguanas(Fright of the Iguana)”.
Snakes, lions, tigers, monkeys are becoming bigger threat to humans than ever before. Most are imported or are sold from zoos to the dealers that sell to the public “Zoo’s that produce to many or accidentally have to many baby animals. End up selling them to exotic animal dealers (Axtman)”. Pythons are becoming a bigger and bigger threat as the years go by. Killing and damaging endangered species and putting common animals on the endangered animals list; “A python can live up to 25 years. In the wild, large Burmese have eating deer, pigs, antelope, humans, leopards, baboons, and crocodiles. A Burmese over 8 feet can kill an adult human(Ko, Marnie)”. As the animal industry grows, the demand for exotic and sometimes dangerous animals is on the rise. Not only should dogs and cats have but more rules and punishments for large and dangerous animals. With the years to come the United States in general is setting itself up for a lot of problems. Not many people look at what they are doing as effecting the future. Some animals are labeled and judged for who they are in the same classification of. Some pythons stay small and docile will others get large and mean. Laws against pit bulls are always being passed. Due to there MEAN nature, “...dog community have fought for years against specific singling out specific breeds or being more vicious than others(Dogs Banned)”.
Animals have not cause this by themselves, but people have. These animals did not choose where to live “maby people buy exotic animals and have them shipped to their homes and dont know federal and state laws govern their ownership and arn’t told by the seller (Axtman). Nor did they choose the people that are going to care for them. Most cases start as, the animal was a baby and was real cute and looks cuddly. As time passes they grow larger and sometimes become mean. Or they are to large to where the person or people don’t want to take care of them due to size and amount of money required to take care of them “People don’t realize what the animals main needs are as a baby or as an adult, most animals are bought due to “Coolness” (Sutton, Peggy)” Dealers and irresponsible people have caused these bans on exotic animals. Same goes for common pets, as far as laws and regulations. People but puppy’s and kittens when they are small and cuddly. But as they get more mature then people don’t seem to want them anymore and they get sold to other households or they get let go and picked up by animal control. And they are rarely ever claimed by the owners; “The authority seizing or impounding an animal shall give notice by delivering a copy of forms, or person owning the property where the animal was seized (Sutton)” Only to be put to sleep because they grew up and didn’t have the cute little face and was a baby. As more and more cases arise with animals, exotic or not, more bill and bans will be put onto these animals. So that they are not going to be allowed into our daily lives.
As time has shown our shelters are becoming more and more crowded due to people not taking care of there animals or just don’t want them anymore; “Food at least once a day, water offered continuously, a clean and disinfected enclosure. Control of all pest, handle and play with animal expeninously (State of California)”. Most people just buy them when they are just baby’s. And as soon as they mature, people just dump them or let them go and or take them to a kill shelter. Many exotics and some other animals are bought as small little baby’s but then people realize how large they are going to get “ proper floor space, fully enclosed, heat Source provided to keep min. air tempature. Abide by minimal cage/ area size required (state of california)” Then they one day just decide to let them go because they are getting to big or they can’t provide what they animal requires and might care to much; “Exotic animal log, invoice, is required by this section 671.0 shall be maintained for at least 3 years(State of California)” People like this are the ones that get everyone into trouble and make it so that our future family’s cant have the animal that they desire. Every year there are more and more animals that are released or put into kill shelters, due to size, aggressiveness, care required, laws, etc. Now that the human race has caused laws and regulations to be passed, the future is looking very slim on what maybe allowed as a pet.
Now that the main damage has been done there are only a couple things that may be done to change what has been done in the past. Couple things are that we as a animal loving community, is to show that we are responsible “a study found that people who own mutiple dogs are more responsible owners and therefor less likely to cause or condon problems by there animals(Howle)”. If you can’t take care of them then don’t ever get them, Treat them as if you wanted to be treated like. Get them spaid or neutered, know what you are getting yourself into before you buy or receive the animal. Following the rules will help with the government reducing laws and regulations on animals that the human race desires. Know the laws and check with local animal control to see if you are breaking any codes or laws. Over time the government will see that we are responsible pet owners proving that we can control with what happens with the animals that we own. As long as the rules are followed then the future should be a positive, “ ... 100 police calls regarding dog related inncidents, only a few showed houses owning multiple dogs(Fiala)” Looking into the future more and more problems may start if we don’t unit as animal lovers. If certain guide lines are followed and not many are broken, hopefully then the government will reduce laws. But mainly it is the states that we must stand up against and show that people can work as a community.
New laws are being created and passed every single day “By chipping away at the rights of dog owners through other manly, such as limit laws in order to set the stage for a grandiose effort to prohibit dog ownership (Howle)” They may be minor but in the long run they will mound up into larger and more devastating rules; it’s not a leap from three to none while the enactment of legislation banning all dogs, it could happen (Tanick)”. Many laws say that the don’t ban certain animals. But laws are passed that many people don’t see and that do target certain breeds; “ members of the dog community have fought for years against specific breeds or being more vicious than other breeds (Tanick) There are many ways that you can look at the future. Some people think that it is bad that some o f these are passed. There are other’s that think just because a few people have screwed up they are being punished for what they own as pets. Certain animals don’t belong as pets, but to be left alone in the wild, not in our home’s. The future is not for sure, but if people take it day by day then, there might be a hope for tomorrow and what it holds. We have the power, not the government. We decide, we vote, we control what happens in our daily lives’s; “ we as the people have the power to control the future (Sutton)”
We have the power to decide on what we can own or not own the decision is for the people. Many people want to ban certain animals and others don’t. Animal lover’s must fight for there rights of weather we want our friends and companions destroyed. Just because they were made and brought into this world. Controlling incidents is the best way to help fight bans and laws effecting animals in areas. Properly caring for these animals, means meeting there needs. Make sure that you can do what is needed for the animal that you long for. Controlling laws and regulations on common pets and exotic animal are always a threat to the human interest of what we can own and what not.

Anything with a Wheel
In F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby”. Transportation is one of the biggest symbols in this book, also it is the most used technology. It is such a big factor that anything that moves humans from one destination to another, humans will most certainly use it. Anything from horses, boats, hydroplanes, cars, trains, etc. are used in this book for the everyday human life. Transportation in general means more than a mode of moving from one destination to another, but can also be symbols of an event or special occasion also feelings; “all the cars have the left rear wheel painted black as a mourning wreath and there’s a persistent wail all night along the north shore ( Fitzgerald 14).” Showing symbols of human emotions is shown through transportation in this novel. Everything from anger, sad, happy, depressed, and any other emotion know to man could represent any means of transportation.
Vehicles can also be shown for class, power, wealth, and things that set the human race into different categories. Vehicles can be used to show the love for someone “Very romantic, he said....If it’s still light enough after dinner i would like to take you down to the stables (Fitzgerald 20).” As Tom try’s to show his love for Daisy. Some of these machines are used for the fact that people just like to spend money and show off there wealth. They are used to just cruise around, such as horse’s “They were a party of three on Horse back (Fitzgerald 107)”.
Having the power to control a situation by a vehicle. When you are the driver, you are in control of what really happens. Transportation in this novel is also for amusement, power, or control. But it is also provided a job for people such as Wilson; “Hows business? I can’t complain, When are you going to sell me that car? Next week, I’ve got my man working on it now. (Fitzgerald 29)”. Vehicles allow characters to have fun, such as cruising the city. Finding places to shop at and look for items to buy “It’s a , here’s your money. Go and buy ten more dogs with it (Fitzgerald 32)”.
Trains and taxis provide excellent services if you are a business man, or cant afford a car at all ; (... I had noticed on the commuting train. I was immediately struck by the number of the Englishmen dotted about; all well dressed, all looking a little hungry and all talking in low earnest voices solid and prosperous Americans. I was sure they were all selling something: Bonds or insurance or Automobiles (Fitzgerald 46).
Means of transportation can also be used to show off wealth and power that certain people posses; “The cars from New York are parked five deep in the drive... (Fitzgerald 44)”. Many people are good drivers, but there are there exceptional one’s out there in this book “But how did it happen? Did you run into the wall? Don’t ask me, said Owl eye’s, washing his hands over the whole matter know very little about driving-next to nothing. It happened, and that’s all I know. But i wasn’t even trying, he explained indignantly. I wasn’t even trying. An awed hush fell upon the bystanders. Do you wan to commit suicide? (Fitzgerald 59)”.
With racism still very high, the only thing that separated the African American race. Is wealth, with racism it is very rare to see a African American with wealth and nice things is the only thing that really separated them “... A limousine passed us, driven by a white chauffeur, in which sat three modish Negroes, two bucks and a girl (Fitzgerald 73)”.
Many people are brought up around vehicles of all different kinds. Such as Gatsby, at a young age he was brought up around yachts and other boats that Dan Cody introduced him to; “ When he seen Dan Cody’s yacht drop anchor over the most insidious flat on lake Superior (Fitzgerald 104)”. As people are brought up around different kinds of vehicles. They tend to have as they get older, reminding them of there days in the youth.
Having the control of a vehicle can cause you to do many crazy things such as speeding, wreckless driving, road rage. Many of these subjects are found in this amazing novel. Such as when Daisy and Gatsby run off, since Tom is mad that she is having somewhat of an affair. As Daisy speeds off in Gatsby car, with Gatsby in the front seat. They rarely ever slow down. They come to the city of ash’s where Daisy is speeding faster and faster through the valley. Myrtle watched the car come through the valley; “It’s a yellow car, he said. Big yellow car, New. Said George (Fitzgerald 146). That God Damn Coward! He whimpered. He didn’t even stop the car (Fitzgerald 149)”.
With high tensions behind the wheel, sometimes crazy things are bound to happen. George ends up at Gatsby’s house and shooting Gatsby in the pool. And killing himself not to far away from the pool. Only to be killed by George due to George thinking that Gatsby was the one that killed his wife. But it was Daisy that killed Georges wife, due to the fact that she was mad at Tom. Gatsby’s wealth bought him many things from various vehicles to houses, but money never bought him friends “About five o’clock our procession of three cars reached the cemetery and stopped in a thick drizzle beside the gate- first a motor herst, horribly black and wet. Then Mr.. Gatz and a minister and I in a limousine, and a little later four or five servants and the postman from west egg in Gatsby’s station wagon, all wet to the skin. Automobiles and various vehicles played a very valuable role in this novel. They went from wealth, emotions, symbolizes, and also special occasion that helped set the plot of the book. They played a major role in plots, events, and moods in this novel. Without vehicles in this novel, it would not be as good as it is now.
